I'll be in Nashville next week for work and I'm looking to bring home bottles of stuff I can't get in CT. I realize that it's not the greatest place for beer, but I always like to bring something home. Looks like Midtown Wine & Spirits is close to my hotel so I'll be stopping there. Do you recommend any specific beers from Yazoo, Blackstone, or other breweries? I also can't get New Belgium, Schlafly, Sweetwater, or Terrapin in CT.
Craft Brewed is a nice bottle shop and not too far from Midtown. The Straight to Ale stuff is nice. Monkeynaught is a good IPA. Laika Russian Stout is fantastic. Yazoo Sue is a nice smoked porter.
I too will be traveling to Nashville this weekend. Has anyone been to The Bottle Shop in Franklin, TN?
In Nashville, I would def. hit up midtown or Craft Brewed. JMO, but I don't think Frugals high grav selection is very good at all. In Franklin, Bottle Shop and Red Dog are easily the best. Red Dog is right around the corder from me, so I hit that the most often. I would say it would easily be considered one of the better places in Nashville area. They've really stepped up in the beer area.
Blackstone and Yazoo both most certainly aren't bad. (Although, I'm not a huge fan of Yazoo's Dos Perros.) If you're looking for a good glass of locally brewed beer, you can find a restaurant that serves beer from Mayday! Brewery. They're based out of Murfreesboro TN and in my opinion have quite tasty brews.
Blackstone has very good beers, so would hit them up. In Franklin, CSB is a must. Probably the most "adventurous" brewer in the Nashville area, commercial wise. Also Turtle Anarchy has very clean and consistant brews. As bars go, I like 12 South.
I second that. I'm from Memphis and went by there when I was in Nashville last fall looking for Sam Adams styles that aren't available around here. I found several new bottles for my collection and an impressive beer selection in general. Midtown Wine & Spirits on Church Street pretty much around the corner had a good selection as well.
Definitely be sure to pick up a bottle of sue. I grabbed one when I was there during the holidays and wished I had bought more!
I like the Bottle Shop a lot. What it lacks in size/quantity it makes up for in quality and price. One of the few places you can buy singles of higher gravity beer if you don't want a whole 4 or 6 pack. Also, Whole Foods is next door and has a good selection of low gravity beers, which you can also pick up as singles.
