My wife wants to make birdfeeders out of a couple of old wine bottles. I thought it would be great to use an empty bomber or 750 to do this. I then thought a painted label bottle would be even better for the sake of longevity. Aside from the obvious choice of Stone, what else is readily available (in MD) with a painted label? My memory isn't coming up with much. I may have to just wander a couple of bottle shops to see what I find.
I tried making glasses out of Stone bottles using a bottle cutter and hot/cold water. I practiced on other bombers as well. The other bottles worked great, but all of the Stone bottles cracked, splintered and shattered. Maybe the glass is thinner. As for screen painted bottles, try the Lips Of Faith series.
ok so I ended up with a bomber of Abita's Abbey ale. Wife picked it because of the "pretty" label. She also grabbed a bottle of a dry rose from Coppola. Both purchases were based solely on the bottle shape and/or label. First time I've purchased stuff without thought to what's inside. Hopefully both are good. I will put up pics of the finished feeders soon.
As already mentioned, Stone and Rogue bombers are painted, and have pretty cool art work. Alesmith paints their bottles as well. I have an Evil Dead Red bottle that I drilled and fed a string of orange lights into. I affixed a skeleton to the bottle neck and display it at Halloween. I have countless other bottles that I've drilled and put lights in, and have even made a few bottle lamps. Cant wait to see the pics of your bird feeders.
Even if you used a bottle with a paper label, you could always ModPodge over it, though I must admit I haven't tried it myself.
