Headed there tomorrow would like to find brewers, bottle shops and restaurants nearby. Also have a bottle of CCB Hanua if anyone might be interested in a trade. Like great IPAs or DIPAs
I'm headed there on Friday. Would like to know as well! What would you like for that Huna? Coming up from the Chicagoland area.
If you do a search for Petoskey (spelling counts on this one when searching ), you'll find a decent amount of results. Most of it seems to refer to Petoskey Brewing Company, and then there are some posts about Petoskey not really having a good bottle shop - that thread was from a couple years ago, so not sure if much has changed. I've never had luck with finding stuff in Petoskey myself, either.
You can also stop in Traverse City on your way up for a larger selection of places that are beer-related. I'd definitely stop in for some food & beer at 7 Monks, which I usually do each summer when I'm up there.
In my opinion Tsoski Sands is the best bottle shop up north, It is on the way to Petoskey Brewing. Also check out Pond Hill farm. The beer is great and the location cannot be beat http://www.pondhill.com/#your-local-farm
Here are reviews for the beers and the place (Tunnel Vision Brewery) at Pond Hill Farm that is mentioned above. It's a wonderful experience. Sit on the deck if you can. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/42539/?view=beers
Pond Hill sounds great, and it looks like there is stuff for the kids to do at the farm, so it could be a nice family outing. The only problem with my trip up north this year is that we're staying 2 hours away in Glen Arbor, so it'll be quite a hike up there. We may make a day of it and do stuff in Petoskey/Harbor Springs, though, and have a little time at the farm...I'll see if I can convince the Mrs. that it's a good idea. Doing the chocolate factory tour at Kilwin's nearby may be a way to sell it, since the kids will love that too.
Thanks for all the info and sorry for not staying in touch. On a motorcycle adventure in the area. Still have that Huna. Looking for someone today.
Sorry can't help you with a trade. Hope you are enjoying your trip. When you have time report back and let us know how it went.
Been successful so far. Scored four 4 packs of M-43 on my way up to Petosky. Also a growler at Founders.
Sorry I missed this thread as I was in Petoskey for a couple of days after the 4th. I was traveling with lots of beer and would have loved to share as well. Toski Sands is by far the best bottle shop as stated above. Scooby's Bottle shop is closer to down town and is hit and miss. Last year I got a couple of bottles of BCS there on Sat after Black Fri that no one had scooped up yet. I really like Beard's Brewing and they just moved into a new facility with full kitchen and menu. Also Tap 30 Pourhouse is right down town and usually has a great list. On the same trip I mentioned above, got BCS on draft on the Sat. after Black Fri. If traveling down I 75, take a quick trip of of the south Gaylord exit to the Otsego lake corner Store. It's pretty far off the beaten path, but lots of great finds, and huge craft selection. Last week picked up some BA Expy, Shorts ba stuff, Arbor BA sours, and stuff from the UP like Ore Dock that can't get in Indiana.
I was trying to look up that Ostego Lake Corner Store, but couldn't find it. I did find Grumpy's Corner Store - is that where you went?
I'm not sure what the store is called, but I think both names are used for the same place. I can't imagine two places in the same vicinity with the same craft selection. It's about 1/3 of the way down the west side of Otsego Lake on West Otsego Lake Dr. Pretty much looks like your average northern corner party store from the outside.
I've never been, but was inquiring for possible future use. It looks like it's the same place based on your description and what I can see on Google Maps. Sounds like a nice little gem.
I've stopped in before as I take back roads on my way back down state. Typical up north party store with decent craft, there were a few offerings that were long picked over in Detroit on my visit.
