I'll be in town for the Rosebowl and was looking for some recommendations. I'm staying at the Americana at Brand to give you a better idea of my location and of course will also be in Pasadena. Need some reccomendations of places with good food and selection to watch some games. Also what's my best bet for a one stop place to pick up a haul. Looking to get some RR, Alpine, Cascade etc.

With Russian River and Alpine, it's just a matter of timing. They usually don't last a day once stores receive their shipment. Bill's Liquor in Atwater Village about a mile or so from Americana is your best bet in that area. Go to their Facebook site, they post beers they get in, so you can check out the kind of stuff they carry. About a week ago they got Pliny, Blind Pig, and Supplication.

Last time I went to Ramirez Liquor about three weeks ago they had 3-4 bottles each of Cascade Apricot, Blueberry, The Vine, and Kriek. Without traffic, it's probably 15-20 minutes from Glendale. I've bought Pliny, RR sours, Alpine Pure Hoppiness/Nelson here, but it's a luck of the draw if they are available when you're in town.

Sunset Beer Company is not too far. I don't recall buying Russian River there, but they periodically get Alpine.

All three places update on Facebook.

And be sure to hit Glendale Tap while you're here.

For what it's worth, you are going to be practically within walking distance of Golden Road Brewing if you're staying at the Americana. Just sayin'. If you go to Glendale Tap, be sure and get some tacos from El Sauz across the street. It's dumpy, but MAN they have great tacos.

Appreciate the advice! I figured it would be tough to get my hands on anything from the breweries I mentioned, but its worth a try. There's plenty of brews in CA that I can't get in AZ so it'll still be good. Will definitely grab some tacos!

Ramirez always has some cascade in the back shelves. It's a bit too pricey for that area on a single bottle.

Alpine is very spotty, but RR will be pretty easy depending on what you're looking for. Bill's has a 1 bottle limit on stuff like Pliny, so the chances of them having it is often more than the other locations.

There is a Bevmo right across the street from the Americana for regular CA distribution stuff. Red Carpet is still open in Glendale and gets Pliny as much as anybody else. Whole Foods Glendale is worth a stop also, but you have to ask for Pliny usually.

    For Pasadena:

Slater's 50/50 - 100+ taps and a ton of TVs for games. Food is damn good too.
    Congregation Ale House
    Lucky Baldwin's
    - 2 locations in Pasadena, the one in Old Town usually has a better beer selection
    Stone Company Store
    Haven Gastropub

    That should get you started.

As mentioned above, try Bevmo & Whole Foods. I've had pretty good luck with the WF Pasadena. If you're looking for a place to get some drinks, Congregation Ale House & The Haven (Both in Pasadena) usually have a good tap list. I believe you can check them online. Also, Tony's Darts Away in Burbank is a favorite of mine. You can also check their tap list online. 38 Degrees Ale House in Alhambra is also fairly close.

**How did I forget the Stone store & Lucky Baldwins!

Around the corner from Slaters 50/50 is a place called The Blind Donkey. It's more of a whiskey bar but they do have some decent taps (although only like 5-6). They did have Abyss on tap last year. They also have a good burger but so does Slaters from what I hear.

If I had one wish it would be that everyone who thinks Slater's serves good food would be introduced to good food. Second wish something about curing cancer or world hunger.

The problem with Slater's is that hamburgers aren't suppose to be cooked to a hockey puck charcoal black. Burgers should be cooked to medium rare, so having half your burger content be bacon makes it that you're going to have to cook it till it's charred.

In saying that, once you've tried it once, you could avoid it and just enjoy their vampire dip and drink a beer or two from their great tap list.

Then don't order the 50/50 patty. I think if you enjoy bacon it should be tried once though. They do have a regular beef burger that is pretty good. I enjoy the turkey patty as well, especially on that Thanksgiving burger.

I'm not saying it's the best food out there but it's definitely good enough to enjoy while working through that tap list.

Isn't that exactly what I said? Try it once. Get it off your check list and bam, you will never have the desire to have it again. Though I did do the 100% bacon burger for their standard American burger/July promotion whenever they pop it out.

All the recommendations were great, I couldn't find any Pliny to take home but scored some on tap at Lucky Baldwins. Thanks again!
