Some friends of mine recently moved to Altadena, and are looking for non-bevmo places to buy beer. They ready know about vendome, cap and cork, and total wine in northridge, but are hoping to find something closer. Anyone willing to share their local spots? Feel free to BM if you don't want your secret completely outed. Cheers!
Red Carpet Wine in Glendale is a great bottle shop, and definitely closer than Northridge or Toluca Lake or Los Feliz. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/8360
Try mission wine and spirits in pasadena as well as both whole foods in pasadena (one on foothill and the other on arroyo parkway)
Yeah- Mission Wine and Spirits on Washington/Allen has some very good beers. Whole Foods on Arroyo has an outstanding selection.
Whole Foods in Pasadena is pretty good. I didn't think Mission was that great for beer... they have most of the regular SoCal lineup but not much more. Good for liquor though.
Make sure they check out Stuffed Sandwich. It's a very unique beer bar that also sells beer to go. You can find very old bottles there you wouldn't find anywhere else.
the SGV definitely has a lot of good options (at least for bars since Ive never tried getting a bottle over there) I do agree that Red Carpet is top notch and worth the extra trip at times (and they do very well with updating their beers via email!). Its not THAT far but its not the best for potentially frequent and/or random trips from altadena
I live in Altadena and believe me there are no bottle shops here in suburbia. Would recommend you make the trek to Monrovia to House of Spirits. They are fairly new bottle shop but get the same distribution as Bills Liquor-good selection of Lost Abbey, Bruery, Russian River, Firestone, Knee Deep etc. It looks pretty unassuming from the outside but don't be fooled. Worth the trip-about 15 minutes from Altadena.
