Wasn't sure where to put this.

Anyone here bottle beer from a growler fill? Basically, take beer from a growler fill and siphon it into a sanitized bomber so it can be capped. Primary purpose for doing it would be to ship growler only beer to a buddy. Thanks.

I don't like growler fills for long term storage, for reasons of both sanitation and oxidation. Moving from the growler to a bomber doesn't really solve either of those problems. (You can't unring a bell.) But if your buddy is going to imbibe quickly, I guess it's an option.

Why not just send him the whole growler?

the beer would be consumed pretty quickly.

Sending growlers just frighten the bejesus out of me.

I have shipped more growlers than I'd like to even think about and have had zero issues. Just need to pack them carefully and secure the top with electrical tape so it won't pop open. Don't be scurrrrd.

Interesting thought. I think it could be done. I would (of course) sanitize everything, bottle the beer asap so that you lose as little carbonation as possible, siphon slooooooowly into to lose as little carbonation and oxidate as little as possible, and cap on foam. The beer would inevitably pick up some oxidation, and you never know what will happen to it in shipping, but I imagine it would be fine if consumed within a few days.
