We have a thread for best. How about worst new breweries?

Based off one visit right after they opened Klockow was a disappointment. Everything was below average at best. This was mid November. Perhaps it has been improved.

Union 32 - The beer they actually brew was terrible. The concept of pour-your-own is cool and all, but both times I was there, their tap list, while long, wasn't anything to write home about. I guess the pour-your-own concept is the only reason I've been back to Union 32...because if I had to have a full pour of their house beers, I doubt I'd have come back. Thankfully I only grabbed an ounce or two as a sample.

Three Twenty - This one is a bit tougher, as I was here on the way up to cabin country shortly after they opened and haven't had a chance to go back since. I was really hoping for some decent beer to break up the drive north - something along the lines of Moose Lake. But of the 4 beers I sampled while I was there all were below average at best, and a few had noticeable flaws. I'll give it a pass though, as it was shortly after they opened and we all know new breweries tend to have issues. I'll give them another short this summer and hopefully will find they have improved.

I can't really think of a 3rd one. The class of '17 had some real winners, a bunch of mediocre-to-great breweries, and very few duds IMO.

Not sure when you visited but I'd suggest giving it another chance. They've recently hired a new head brewer who seems to have a lot better idea what he's doing and the tap list has been getting much more interesting lately. It helps that it's a quarter mile from my office but I'm become a bigger fan every time I stop by.

The last time I was there was over the summer. I'll give it another shot at some point.

And I thought of a 3rd one! Headflyer...not really impressed with their offerings

Too soon. I'm guessing the majority of new breweries would admit not everything was rosy the first year. Congrats to these guys for making their dream come true, keep truckin', and we'll revisit this down the road.

What's the problem with this thread? Do we have to give participation medals or ribbons to all the new breweries that came out this year for just pouring out beer or could they bear to hear some honest feedback from customers. Seriously.

    I hope this was sarcasm, but in case not;

The problem with this thread is it's just talking shit for talking shit's sake. Nobody is asking you to give a participation awards to breweries you personally think suck. If you don't like it, don't go. Don't recommend it. Don't tell all you friends. Don't even ever talk about it. That's fine.

But this? This ends up being a circle-jerk about how, yeah, you're right, that place you've been to once, for maaaybe a beer or two "sucks" and everybody needs to know how much your stupid, single opinion means. What does that actually do?

This doesn't help anybody, let alone people that are running the breweriers you think are not so great. Seriously.

So should we not review beers negatively on this site as well? I've seen enough poor comments on several of these breweries to think they are on to something.

Please don't tell me I have to go back through my 2000+ written reviews and delete all the ones that lean negative since I only had some of those beers once.

I get it!! All we should do is put out positive reviews and thoughts and just don't express yourself if you have any negative comments about any of these businesses that serve consumers.

Comments like this do help others. Seriously

While I agree with your general thesis here, I think we are too quick to celebrate mediocrity in the twin cities. Folks need to call out subpar beer and stop patronizing these places.

I was thinking we should have a running bad beer thread. I am not talking about bad breweries. I am talking about bad beers and/or bad batches of beers. These new small breweries can have some misses, so you can give them a little break especially when there first starting. But Established breweries should have the quality control setup to stop these bad batch beers from getting to the consumer.

You gotta be shitting me? This is not going to sit well with some here. For the record I am all for it and admire the jewels you exhibit to go out on the limb and give both positive and negative thoughts here.

It's the bottom line, save people from wasting money on bad beer.
example: the odd side ales peanut beer: the bad batch that nobody wanted to mention

Agree 100% that honest feedback is vital, but blithely listing out your "top 3 worst breweries that opened this year" feels like a panel of fashion experts discussing the worst dressed celebrities of 2017 on E! Network. It's mean-spirited and sophomoric, and doesn't accomplish anything. It's bro mentality at its worst.

I guess we'll just have to disagree here. There has to be "the best" and there has to be "the worst". It is ALL subjective but that is what this site is all about isn't it?

I found nothing terribly disparaging written on this thread. Just opinions on what breweries are failing.

I don't see it as mean-spirited, sophomoric or bro mentality at all.

I guess if someone came on and called a brewery bad because they do not have enough dong/weiner/tool/package/(I could go on of course but trying to keep it somewhat clean) references in their beer titles I'd get your point. But this is just simply opinions on beer quality which again is what this site is about.

I see it as honest opinions. I know some these days are not used to hearing honest opinions and get their feelings hurt easily but until this site outlaws constructive negative opinions I see nothing wrong with a thread like this .

I've made my opinion clear. If this site wants to limit discussions like this that is their right but I don't think that is the case.

i think so long as people actually substantiate their reviews with a what and a why, it's a great idea. the market is flooded with new stuff on the shelves all the time, and it'd be nice to know what to steer clear of, and what made it bad.

some of you cats also sound you're also taking this suggestion from the perspective of the brewer, as if this is feedback for them somehow. they made the beer and are trying to sell it, so they must think it's good enough (or they know it isn't and are selling it anyway).
