Boulder Creek Brewery hasn't won many plaudits on this site but it's survived for more than a quarter century since establishing itself in the first wave of California brewpubs. Until Sunday morning, that is, when a fire in the attic took down the whole building. I live in Boston but I grew up a couple miles down Hwy 9 from the pub, and I've made a point of dropping in whenever I'm back in the area; each time the beer seems improved (even if part of what I'm tasting is nostalgia). I hope this small-town institution gets back on its feet, reopens, and continues improving its craft. http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/general-news/20150329/boulder-creek-brewery-gutted-by-fire
Thats is sad to hear. I've never heard of them, but after 26 years I'm sure they are doing something right. I hope they have good insurance and can bounce back from this.
They have had a lot of ups and downs with quality and even stopped brewing for a while due to an industrial accident (ALWAYS wear those big stupid rubber brewing boots!) but Nancy and Stephen have always been there for the community. This is a small and very close knit town, so they have played a huge role over the years. For me, this was one of the first breweries I would always patronize on my road trips through the area. Their Redwood Ale is a classic. Expect a campaign for raise funds and I hope you all will kick in $1. Or more, but one dollar from everyone on the Pacific forum would be amazing. I'll post it when it happens. You can expect a hell of a re-opening party and I sure as shit will be there even though it is more than 2 hours away.
Boulder Creek Brew puts out some solid brews! I will gladly help support their recovery since I live only 30 minutes away.
Their beer had been pretty damn good recently and totally under the radar. Hopefully all the employees land on their feet.
My wife is from Boulder Creek. Lived walking distance to the brewery. (Although I guess everyone from Boulder Creek lives walking distance.) Great burgers, meh beer. Although, they made some fantastic sours fwiw. Hope the place comes back.
i teared up reading this. the fact that a local restaurant is trying to help find employees jobs and their employees are cutting some of their own shifts is so dang nice. so many feels right now! sad loss but it sounds like their insurance will cover it, and they are doing everything they can to take care of their employees
