Infected, but not in a good way :slight_frown:

I was holding on to this one in hopes it might have infected in a "good" way...like some beers do. Like the infected batch of Matilda or 09 Abyss (I frankly loved the flavors in that one) But alas, it ended up being a drain pour. Oh well, win some, lose some, right?

I just opened my only bottle of Odells Bourbon Barrel Stout two nights ago and went through the same heart ache :/

    Oh well I guess.

I believe there was only one batch of the 2011 that is infected. The first batch I'm pretty sure.

I drank my only Odell fresh...good, but boozy. Didn't feel like dropping that kind of loot on another bottle, sounds like that might have been a wise decision lol. I love Odell's...but dang are their small batch beers expensive. Friek is totally worth it, just drank my last bottle of batch 1 on Friday. Cherry still there, raspberry is long gone, started to pick up some acetic notes, but still a damn fine beer. It was actually better then the Fou Fone we opened that night (bad bottle, white wine vinegar and flat as water)

Good thing I kept passing over this one. It's been on the shelf at a store near me for a while. Always thought about picking it up. Good thing I didn't. Sorry for the bad luck though.

I had 4-5 bottles of the supposed infected batch. The first one I opened soon after puchase was clearly infected but still tasty - not a drainpour at all. I've had a couple others since then and they were NOT infected and were excellent.

I actually traded a while back specifically for two infected bottles. I sent one to a buddy and drank the other for myself. This was probably around December '11 and I thought it was fantastic. The infection hadn't taken hold of the other components of the RIS, just added some interesting tartness that I personally enjoyed.

Batch #2 was the infected batch. Batch #1 is doing quite well right now, the barrel is coming through more than it did when it was fresh.

Cool. I have two 2011 batch 1 (I should drink one soon) and one of the original release. (2008 or 2009?)

Duh. Just remembered I cracked a 2011 batch 1 at a stout tasting a few months ago. It ranked #2 over all, beat out only by Oil of Aphrodite.

I opened my bottle of the most recent batch the other night. I had heard there was some weird infection with it and once I opened it, it was very disappointing. It was one of the first beers I started aging and it was disappointing to find the beer was not very good.
one one hand I was bummed I spend $17 on it but at the same time, I too thought "oh well I guess" I still drank it. It wasent terrible but I expected much more.

drinking a batch 1 2011 right now. it's delicious. the barrel flavors are a bit stronger than when it was fresh. it's a world class stout for sure.
