When I saw this on shelves in NJ I was shocked and trilled! This beer sounds like it has all the ingredients for successes and being how I dont have access to Cigar City beer in NJ, this beer is my only way(dont trade) to get an idea of what a Cigar City beer would taste like, plus I really enjoy Boulevards Single Wide IPA. Short story short I was really disappointed with this beer alot, I really didint like it much, and it baffles me! So much so that I wanted to ask you guys when it was bottled because It taste like an old pale ale although BB date is 02/13/16 which really freaks me out.

Don't let that discourage you. CCB Jai Alai is bar none my favorite IPA that's available year round. I just drank Nothing Too Fancy which was a Boulder Brewing/CCB collab and I thought it was fantastic. Fleshy tropical fruit flavor's, backed by a good piney finish with medium mouth feel and perfectly carbonated. I'd make a trip to Tampa in my future if I were you to visit CCB, beacause after visiting them, they are my favorite brewery all around.

This is a 1 time experimental beer, which usually means trying something a bit different. I thought it was fantastic, but no, this flavor is not representative of CCB beers on the whole.

I thought it came exactly as described. Just sounds like the hop profile wasn't your thing. No big deal, move on.

OP, looks like it was bottled in September & it seems you are missing a DD digit.

    http://www.boulevard.com/new-bottle-codes/

In the interest of a more consumer friendly bottle code, 2015 will see us switch from using a Julian code to indicate the day on which beer was bottled to simply sharing information in the following standard format:

    LMMDDYY HHMM BBT
    BEST BY MM/DD/YYYY

The top line (beginning after the letter “L” which stands for “lot”) will indicate the date and time that beer was bottled. “BBT” will be replaced by a letter (A-F) which informs you from which bright beer tank the beer was packaged.

    For example:

L010515 0822 A indicates the beer was bottled on January 5th, 2015 at 8:22 AM from bright beer tank A.

In addition to including a bottled on date, our beers will continue to carry a best by date that won’t see any changes.

Collaboration No. 5 - Tropical Pale Ale was bottled in mid-September. Feel free to reach out to me directly at jdanner at boulevard.com with any questions/comments or I'm happy to address anything here.

That's your problem. Collaborations always work out to be more like the brewery distributing the beer's beer than the one who traveled to the brewery to help make it. In other words, this beer was made on Boulevard's system and distributed by Boulevard while a member(s) of CCB's team helped in conceptualizing and brewing the beer, so it's gonna end up more of a Boulevard beer than a CCB beer. Another example of a collaboration not being a representation of the co-brewer is the New Belgium/Perennial Salted Chocolate Stout. Made at New Belgium, distributed by New Belgium with Perennial just helping out. If you gave that beer to someone very familiar with Perennial's top beers and said "This is a Perennial beer!" they would probably go :astonished:

I don't know where you are in NJ. If up north or in the area around Nanuet, hit up Cable Beverage. They get Jai Alai from time to time and have had it on for growler fills recently.

Perfect, just the information I was looking for. Glad to know that it really isnt the age of the beer thats a problem.

Thanks for the reply. Now I know for sure that the age factor isnt really an issue. So many factors can contribute to the way someone perceives and enjoys a beer that Im going to hold of my judgments until I have drunk a few more. (Got two 4-packs of this stuff).

I actually bought this beer primary based on the hop profile listed. My favorite two hops of all time are Mosaic and Citra! And the some of the others hops I have had in other beers, like Stone Ruination 2.0 or Victory Hop Ranch which I really enjoyed.

I think you have to be open to the possibility that you just don't prefer the beer. I think, far too often, folks want to connect their personal preference to objective quality and it just doesn't work to do so. I accept the fact that there are beers out there that are perfectly great examples of what the brewer intended and have no flaws, but I just don't like them.
