I just had this beer for the first time the other day. I was lucky enough to get it on draft and purchase a bottle. I personally really enjoyed this beer. I thought the bourbon characteristic came through very nice on the nose but didn't stick around for long. I really find it interesting that they list not only what beers are blended but the percentage of each beer that is put into the barrels.

What does everyone think of this series? Do you think it makes for a high quality product? And do you think that if other breweries started to do this a new trend could be formed?

    Cheers!

Haven't had it yet, but typically love everything in the Smokestack Series, and the Collaborations done in the past. Some of my favorite long running series that is actually available on the shelf. Collaborating with another fantastic brewery, whats not to like? I will definitely be getting this when I see it.

Not sure if I am reading you right (pronoun trouble). If you mean collaborations then:

    1) The Boulevard series is great from what I've had. Their Stingo is pretty high on the list of beers that I really wish would come back! @TheJermis
    2) Collaborations can result in nice or not-so-nice beers.
    3) This has been a big "thing" in the American craft scene with many breweries doing the same.

Wasn't crazy about this blend. I thought it was good, but the beers were better individually. I would have liked to see more Merkin in the blend, and less BA Quad.

My bad on the pronoun issue. What I was trying to ask was... what do you think about breweries collaborating to do blends of beers they already brew rather than brewing something new together?

My bad. Then ignore my third item in the other post. There are other collaboration beers like this - Rullquin comes to mind - but in the cases of both of these beers you have breweries involved that are experienced blenders.

I couldn't agree more. If I had all four beers in front of me plus the collaboration, I'd pick one of the individual ones. It seemed to negate all of the best aspects of each beer individually, and instead made a beer that, while fine, wasn't anything special.

I have a bottle sitting in my basement and keep thinking about picking up another one. I enjoy BA beers, and haven't had most of the blended beers, so I'm excited to try it. Even if it isn't better then the sum of the individual base beers, at least its a different beer to try and drink. It's also much more accessible then some of the beers they blended.

Personally I don't think it is better than all of the beers in the blend. However I believe it is better than most of the beers in the blend. I had this BA blend fresh on draft but I also picked up a bottle to age.

    Cheers!
