bought couple bottles while down in SC. Really excited to give it a try. I loved their BBA Imperial stout. I wonder if this X Coffee is anywhere similar to Hardywood Sidamo Coffee Stout?

While my experience wasn't quite as bad, I felt like mine differed from other peoples' positive reports. I didn't think there was anything severely wrong with the beer but it was boozy, lacked coffee presence and was a bit of a chore to finish. It actually reminded me more of a barleywine than an imperial stout. I love coffee beers but this one was a big letdown. Just my .02

The base beer for Imperial Stout X - Coffee is the same beer that we barrel age for our Smokestack Series Imperial Stout. In what way do you feel it's a barleywine as opposed to a stout?

Shoot, was looking forward to that one...does that mean the rum version just needs more time in the barrels?

@TheJermis Just curious how Love child no 5 will differ from no 4...more funk? Thanks

I'm really not a fan of spoon feeding tasting notes as I think that part of the fun is tasting the beer and seeing what you taste in it. I will say that it's not as acetic as Love Child No. 4 and has a more pleasant/refreshing lactic acidity. The total acidity falls somewhere between LC3 and LC4.

No, the barrels we received were in terrible shape and we didn't use them.

Just the sweetness I got out of it reminded me more of a barleywine's flavor profile is all. It's strange too because I've had the Smokestack Series Imp Stout multiple times on draft and really liked it. Maybe it's the kind of coffee used but I usually like Ethiopian coffee. *shrugs*

Thanks for this. It was indeed 13.99 in TX, picked up a bottle. Does this mean that we wont see any Imperial Stout (whiskey barrel aged) this year? That's one of my favorite beers

Imperial Stout (the whiskey barrel aged version) was released near the end of last year.

Had this last night, very good. I was surprised at the level of carbonation, my first pour had a solid thick head that threatened to overflow the glass.

Man, disappointed the next one won't be rum. Was excited for that. Interested to hear what the next will be.

I still have not seen this anywhere in the LA area. Strange.

Also no sightings in the DC area. We usually get everything Boulevard releases, and I'm wondering if the absence of Imperial Coffee is related to their recent entry into the NY market.

None in the Northwest either. Was looking forward to this one and we usually get most all the Boulevard releases. Maybe still coming?
