If you can get your hands on a bottle, Darkhorse in Marshall MI makes a version of their regular beer, Bourbon Barrel Plead the 5th. It's pretty tasty. I believe @nc41 mentioned it earlier in this post. In a blind taste test amongst some fellow BA's, it ranked #1 ~ #2.(Yes BCBS was at that test) You might get some of the fellas that were in that taste test to weigh in on this one. How about it @Lkoro @saemick @end_27, Best Bourbon Barrel beer?

had a blind test with BCBS, BBPt5, Black Note, CW BB Stout, & barrel aged Dystopia by Greenbush. As good as Black note it, BCBS & BBPt5 were unanimously 1&2. If you can get a bottle of BBPt5; i highly recommend it.

As far as others, I love BA scotch ales, so Backwoods Bastard & CW BB Scotch Ale are awesome.

Also, another at the top of my list is the BA Abraxas...simply amazing!!!

Same, I might actually try it tonight, but I will have to go to the store to get some vanilla extract. I will report back when I do try it.

Edit: nevermind, I found some in the cupboard! does freshness matter with vanilla extract?

Dunno. Does it say "Enjoy by"? Just kidding. I really don't know. Maybe you should head to the store for some fresh extract. You don't want to waste that BCBS.

No offense, but I think that is the most (edit:slight_smile: watered down or thinnest BB aged anything that I have ever had. I can't understand why anyone even buys it really. Maybe I am an idiot who knows nothing though???

My favorites so far have been:

    Founders KBS
    Allagash Curieux
Boulevard Rye on Rye (not Bourbon, but totally mind-blowing)
    Jack's Abbey BA Framinghammer

All beers are palate dependent, but just try as much as you can.

I didn't think I could like a BA scotch ale more than Backwoods Bastard.. then I had Wulver. It's delicious and so ridiculously smooth, but it's collecting dust on shelves around here at $25 for a four pack.

When we did that blind taste test, by far the BA PT5 was no.1...the head, body and finish are what I would call a complete beer overall. Me and @TastyDelicousness did a mini vertical of BA PT5 about 2 weeks ago with our wives...a '11, '12 & '13. The '11 was simply AMAZING sweet and creamy with a hint of bourbon. The '12 on the other hand was like we cracked a bottle of Booker's whiskey! Was almost too much hotness off the snifter. Maybe another year will do it some good. The '13 I was lucky to obtain (2) 4pks because of TastyD which I thank him every day.

Interested in reading and hearing other people views on BA brews.

I'm very new to bourbon BA beers, but would highly recommend the Central Waters BA stout, which has been mentioned by others. Delicious!
