My favorite, most memorable barrel aged beer was Fraoch Vintage Cask from Williams Brothers. Its basically their Imperial Heather ale aged in Auchentoshan scotch whisky barrels. The fact that it isn't a huge imperial stout has it's advantage of really allowing the scotch barrel to come through.

That's good news to me...I have a 2012 BCBS from a trade and I'm HIGHLY anticipating it later this month:rolling_eyes:

Along with that Backwoods Bastard I'd recommend Thirsty Dog Wulver. Both are superb and in my mind, different in subtle ways. I love 'em both!

$25 for a four pack!?! They only sell single bottles of this around here for $10 per.

Parabola. Speedway BA. Any Firestone Anniversary beer. Hangar 24 Pugachev's Cobra. Etc... Just check out the BA top rated beers. I'm sure a vast majority will be bourbon barreled.

Agreed! Amazing beer, but it's sitting around here too. Pretty expensive.

I usually put a vanilla bean directly in a bottle and recap it for 24-36 hours. Yes, mind blowing goodness.

I had a small glass of Weyerbacher Heresy last night and was thrilled to see a distinctly BB beer that does not predominate with whiskeyness. The subtlety of this beer is an achievement, for such a large beer! Congratulations to Dan and his crew for being barrel pioneers that quietly make damned good beer everyday.

BA Blackout and BA Siberian Night are both tremendous. Pricey, but top-notch and great for a special occasion.

Dragon's Milk is one of the best if you can find it.

To throw another one in the mix, I had an Atwater Brewing BA Shaman's Porter last fall and it was great! I also love Bell's Black Note but it has been mentioned several times already. I haven't had any Bourbon County yet, but would LOVE to trade for some. It wasn't brought to Georgia this year because abv was too high. Figures.

I feel you. Luckily, there is legislation in the works to get Ohio's limit raised from 12% to 21% (I think). Keeping my fingers crossed.

I am a sucker for Southern Tier Oak Aged Unearthly and Allagash Curieux to go away from stouts and barleywines. On the local front, Williamburg Alewerks Cafe Royale and Bourbon Barrel Porter are both excellent. On the national front, BCBS, BCB Barleywine and FW Parabola are favorites along with Founders Backwoods Bastard.
