Last night a friend told me about a bourbon barrel Siberian Night from this years release that tasted infected to him when he drank it a couple nights ago. Last night he opened another one so I could see if he was crazy or not and it tasted horrible and I agree that something is definitely not right. We each had 1 when it was first released and it did not taste this way, it was really good.

Has anyone else had one recently? I think there is an issue for sure since it was not just one bottle that had this problem. I have never had a beer change like this so quickly and would find it hard to imagine that it is limited to only his 4 pack.

I didn't notice any off flavors.

I had it on tap four months ago and it was fantastic. So I purchased 8 bottles and the 3 I have had do not come anywhere close to what I had on tap. I should revisit this one tonight and get back to this thread.

I would be interested in what you find, especially being from MI also. I know what it tasted like when it was fresh and what I tasted last night was not right.

I just had one last night and noticed a weird fruity cherry flavor that wasn't there last time I had one.

The one my friend shared with me about two or three months ago tasted funky in a bad way. I never had it before but good to know that others are having issues.

I had one on Sunday and it was fine. No off putting aroma or flavor. It was nicely carbonated, had great bourbon presence with prominent vanilla notes and a bit of oak. I had them cellared in my garage until the weather warmed up a few weeks ago, when they were relocated to the beer fridge. I still see some on the shelves, and will probably buy another four pack. Call me a gambler!

I had a similar experience with a bottle I had over the weekend and again with another bottle last night.

When I first tried this years' release, I noticed an odd "stale biscuit" flavor that I didn't really care for and was hoping some age would mellow it. Turns out it has evolved from a stale biscuit flavor to a tartness that I really don't care for (like the cherry flavor you mentioned).

I've reached out to Thirsty Dog to alert them to this possible issue.

Yuck! Mine was badly infected. Major bummer because I was looking forward to this one.

I recall where I used to work, we had a similar problem with a barrel age beer where some of the barrels were indeed infected and it turned the entire run into a cherry vanilla stout a few months after we packaged it. Some of Bretts close friends found a home in some of the barrels and they are starting to party up.

I just had another bottle last night and the tart cherry aspect seems to be getting even stronger. It doesn't taste like it should. I just emailed the brewery.

Please let us know if you hear anything back. I emailed them on May 1st and have not received a reply of any kind.

I emailed them back when I started this thread and heard back from who I think is the co-owner of Thirsty Dog. He said he was going to rectify my issues and send me out some fresh stuff but two weeks later I have not received anything. I emailed him back the other day and he told me it was going to go out soon and that he had forgotten but I am starting to think I might have to just eat this one and never buy their product again.
