Although no longer available in bottles, you may want to take a trip out to Lift Bridge and try their BA Silhouette if it's still on tap.

Another option is Steel Toe's Before the Dawn - not technically a stout, but damn close. Available in bottles at the brewery.

You are correct. They do have BA versions of Ten Fidy but I've only ever seen them on tap at the brewery and occasionally a keg will make it out to random bars in Colorado. Never canned though.

Edit to add: In the past few batches that I've seen, they've been aged in either Maker's Mark barrels or Four Roses barrels.

Casanova had the Four Roses a few months ago if I'm not mistaken.

Dragon's MIlk is an awesome bank for your buck, get teh 12oz. For some reason when I have bought bombers I have gotten a different taste.

Still some CW BBS at Apple Valley #1, pretty sure it's not the infected batch.

MacKenzie had a 10 50 keg aged in Breckenridge barrels on launch on 3/6. Absolutely delicious.

Yep. Even better when we went back the following day and got the 12 oz pours for the same price. :sunglasses:

obviously I missed something on the threads lately. When did some of the CW BBS become infected? I know Peruvian morning had issues but hadnt read anything on BBS.

Stuff is pretty stellar, but havent seen it on the shelves lately. BBBW still hanging around though.

I think Jim from Blue Max was the first person to put it out there, he tweeted that there was a bad batch. I know that this year was the first time I had CW BBS and I wasn't impressed, but I don't know that my batch was infected. On Sunday I had a CW BBBW and it blew the BBS out of the water (in my opinion).

What Seefeldt said... It was a Tweet - but I know a certain individual who had the bad batch... and it was in fact a bad batch...

The bottles I have had this year have seemed just fine. Just checked the cellar and none of them have that specific code on them, so maybe I got lucky? The CW website shows nothing in terms of info as of now, which seems strange considering they have a big post on PM...because BBS is released before it I think. I do agree that the BBBW is the best of their barrel series.

I must be in the minority - I enjoy CW BBS... for the price it ain't too shabby...

Forgive my cynicism, just looking for a bit more concrete evidence than that. I put a bottle in the fridge for tonight. I'll try to remember to report on what I thought.

Trying to get back on track from the OP, Dragons Milk might be the one BBS that you can get pretty much at any time. While its not my favorite (a bit too syrupy sweet for me), it gets the job done. I also second whoever said the Great Divide Yeti's, even though they are not technically bourbon barrels. Always had a particular fondness for the espresso oak aged one.

I think that is the majority viewpoint. Although I did think this years was much creamier with a better mouthfeel than past years.

Its good, and for the price it is great, but it isn't BCBS

Poor mans BCBS, not quite the same intensity and mouthfeel. But for $13 and not having to become a crazy person to find it, I'm on board. I buy a 4pk whenever I see it around. Tastes great, also makes for great extras.
