Ehh...I spent like ~$175 last year and that included rare and two bottles of 2012 regular. It's going to hit like $300 this year if they allow all of the above as an allotment plus goodies.

I assume the Binnys you are referencing "strolling up to" is Lincoln Park? Ha.

Right. Two regulars at those prices and its like 175. My money is on 200-250 depending on extra goodies.

I will be seriously peeved it the price for Reserve Barleywine is over $25. The sale price for King Henry was $14-16 if I recall AND those bottles were larger than what GI is currently packaging. Obviously there is price inflation but the increase in Rare prices between 2010 ad 2015 was only around 30% (I believe OG Rare retailed for $40-45ish?).

I'm a french presser , and I've looked for good banana pressing ideas, and the FP community has told me bananas never work out well. So I guess I've never tried. I'm very skeptical of this variant, but I'll try pressing it and see what happens.

I'm guessing Reserve will be at least $25. I'd slap the over/under at $35.

    My msrp guesses:

    9.99 regular
    12.99 bw and coffee
    15.99 Northwoods
19.99 prop, reg reserve, bw reserve

This year should provide an excellent perspective on what we can expect for future years prices and the supply/demand/greed factor.

And I quote Jankoski from the OP's Trib link, “People have tried to create banana Bourbon County beers for a long time, but it’s tough. It’s not necessarily the ingredient that’s the issue, but the way it is blended into the beer. If you go with too much or too little, it can either be underwhelming or so far out of balance. Quinn was able to pull it together nicely and put some balance on it. The first time I tasted it, I got a really nice fresh-baked banana bread note with the baking spice integrated very nicely.” I'm intrigued enough to give it a shot.

What is the logic for Barleywine, now that it's no longer aged in "3rd use" barrels, being more expensive than Regular? Relative scarcity?

Yea, I was kind of sad to see that it was once again exclusively 2nd use barrels. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED this year's BW and snapped up any bottles I could, but I liked that the blended BW gave it a unique flavor profile and set it apart from other BA english barleywines.

That being said, the logic is they can charge $12-$15 since thats what it has been - they aren't going to lower the price just because there was a change in how its aged.

They are not going to lower the price just for hell of it. It will match last year or we will see slight increases.

Looking back to 2015. I epect pricing to match.

    9.99 for regular
    12.99 for BW and Coffee
23.99 for northwoods, reserve, and prop
    60+ for Barleywine Reserve.

Oh man I didn't realize they are again not using 3rd use barrels for the BW, that is a real disappointment. BW last year was a shadow of itself in year's past.

Like you I'd rather BCBBW come from 3rd use barrels but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the 2016 vintage.

I liked 2016's 2nd use version better than the vintage 2014 I had shortly before it.

Funny enough, 2015 BW was the best vintage I've had. Still so glad I drank that one over Christmas that year.

My prices were msrp from last year, minus the beers they've never released. Not sure where your getting the decrease.

    Boy, you've changed...

The only '15 BW I had was an instant drain pour. I do like the 3rd use barrels for BW better than the 2nd use for the reasons already noted. I still like the 2nd use version from '16 though and think it's a great example of a BA English BW. I'll be buying more this year.
