there is a super easy way to solve this. Get in line at 5 after the post. The whole line up thing is fucking ridiculous. The only thing forcing the hours long line is us......

It's starting to feel all Black Friday up in here! What happens in this thread over the next 72 hours is some of the "best" the internet has to offer. Not to mention we've got a winning Bears team playing tomorrow. @croush in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we will break you.

I don't disagree with this sentiment at all, but last year I don't think 5:15ish got you an allotment. I sure as hell know 6 didn't do it for me.

My point is if we all stop collectively being assholes we wouldn't have to stand in 12 hour beer lines.

FOMO drives the line. Nothing more and nothing less. If everyone just got their shit together and refused to wait in line the craziness would end. It will never happen but its annoying to see people shit on goose or binnys or any other retailer for "making" ppl stand in line. We are the reason for the line.

There is a reason this beer and its variants sits all over the country on end caps but doesn't here.

Well no, because people are getting there at fucking 5pm on Thursday. :stuck_out_tongue:

The messed up thing is, even if 99.99% of people don't line up before Binny's opens, there will still be at least a few random groups of dudes who ride in Thursday evening on their trained moose, pitch a house-sized tent, run an extension cord from someone's car to said tent, plug in an electric furnace, set up a BBQ, make food, and share $1000 worth of beer "for the experience." And once they're there, everyone will take one look and be like "ah fuck this, let's just get over there and not be the only assholes not getting frostbite."

As a reminder, the first post of this thread lists last year prices AND includes a link to "about" when the Black Friday posts started. Enjoy.

This is why I hated TG's pricing of KBBS so much. Sure, you know there will be enough maniacs to have the beer sell out, but you're catering your pricing to the most rabid morons out there.

I've been going to Sheffield's for the past 6-7 years on Wednesday. Last year was the first time I remember they had a line for capacity around 6:30-7pm. It was also the first time they gave out tickets (FCFS) for the 8pm tappings which are usually the reserve and whatever is deemed "hottest" variant (last year was northwoods). The other variants are open to ordered at 6pm.

It's fun time to spend with friends and try BCBS. At least for myself it allows me to try BCBS and variants so I don't even bother participating with the Binny's/Small Shop/Jewels,etc insanity.

[cue my proverbial (if not hackneyed by now) post about the disconnect between people who complain about prices for beer and those same people who have no issues with standing in line for hours for said beer]

OMG if the price of each bottle goes up A DOLLAR THAT'S TWELVE MORE DOLLARS AND I WILL NOT STAND* FOR IT!!!!

*But if its the same price I will stand....all night....outside....in freezing temps.

Lol...yes, these beer pricing debates...it's all supply and demand. It's not like people don't pay $50+++ for good wine and other spirits. Nor am I entitled to be able to drink $100 bottles of wine if I'm not willing to pay for it, but somebody else is.

An owner of a very well known brewery (I won't name them because I don't want some idiots to perceive them in a negative light) once told me that he could give the bottles out free and hand deliver them and people would still find something to complain about. I never heard anything more true in my life.

Binny's should just do an online ticketed raffle, and then everyone could show up whenever they want.

(I'm sure there's gotta be some website that can actually handle the traffic...right?...right?)

It's like college football and the playoff system. The system itself is, shall we say, not optimal. Inevitably teams that are left out have legitimate arguments to be included among the top 4, while there can be legitimate arguments to be made against some teams that qualify. Perhaps the system should be expanded. Instead of 4 teams, there should be 8, or 16. College football knows this, but welcomes the criticism. To the NCAA, ESPN/ABC, sponsors, etc., it's not so much about the substance of the issues, but simply rather that people are talking about the product. The talk generates interest, and interest generates viewers, and viewers generate income.

Goose Island understands that the current system is not ideal, and that there are ways to make it more convenient for some. But it likes the long lines. It embraces the local news channels and papers running stories about people that at LP Binnys at 2:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving. So in the end, the calls for a better system probably don't move the needle in the slightest. People will still line up for hours, they will still shell out more money, and they will still return next year. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
