That's my point. And allowing people to get a wristband, then leave the line, does not sufficiently reward the line waiters.

If only price paid was correlated to time spent in line

Making people wait in the line is how they're solving the supply/demand problem without raising the price.

Seeing the picture and hearing about how this is all being done this year, sounds 1,000 times better than last year. This is my first year not going to Binny’s LP after going the last 4 (or 5?) years, but happy to see people won’t have to deal with too much chaos.

No one makes them stand in line, and they’re not solving any problem. They simply set the price and the timing of the release, and we crazy people take care of the rest.

Did Binny’s announce that the tickets would be distributed at 5am? Have seen that referenced quite a few times, but must have missed reading it on the blog. It would suck to get here early, get a wristband, take off for a few hours and miss the ticket while warming up in the car (or in bed, as has been suggested).

As if waiting in line, outside in the cold, on a Holiday, for 12 hours, for the mere opportunity to purchase a case of beer for $300 isn't chaos.

For the people who choose to do it, it’s not. Let’s not forget, this is a completely voluntary activity that many people actually seem to enjoy.

I know. That's why they should have a Trump-sized fence around the parking lot and telling people if they leave, they forfeit their wristband.

I enjoy the beer. I do the line waiting thing because it's how I get the beer. If you enjoy the line waiting, I give up.

I’m not saying people enjoy waiting in line in general, but plenty of people make an event out of it, with friends, and have an enjoyable experience despite waiting in line.

Well if you are line you should be fine whenever they hand out tickets.

11:30 update. 6th row is now starting. Guessing 550 or so now but just a guess.

People have been arriving in swarms over last hour.

I see elsewhere they want people to stay in line so people should respect that. But I don’t see a problem with them just allowing people to leave line and come back at 6am if everyone has that choice.

Agreed, I’m in the “I’ll be here all night” camp. It’s part of the game. I want the beers, I don’t mind hanging out with friends for a few hours and sleeping the night away. I don’t really feel like chasing store to store all day Friday without much assurance that I’ll get what I want.

The problem is that making people wait in line is how they make people "pay" the difference between what the beer costs in $$ and what people are willing to pay for it in time. Otherwise, all the people would line up earlier and earlier for a wristband and they can't manage that.

    1) Binny's never even set the price. They said they'd announce it tomorrow morning.
    2) The timing is what I'm talking about. People decide how much time they're willing to "pay" to make sure they have a chance to buy the beer.
    3) And yes, Binny's does make them wait in line. They could do a ticketed release and sell tickets online or do a raffle type ticket (like Prop Day), but they're not. Binny's says you have to be in the first 1000 to get the beer and incentivizes people to arrive early for better vintage bottles.

As beer nerds, it's sometimes difficult to retain perspective.
