I dont think anyone was complaining about out-of-towners coming in to buy beer though. More about the admitted double-dip at LP Binnys. I just don't like that kinda shit. I didn't even go to LP Binnys, and it bothers me. Just have some respect, and don't be ignorant, is the way I see it. Especially if from out of town.

Being local doesn't make this kind of behavior any more acceptable.

The same out of staters who are camping in parking lots, eating free pancakes and coffee in line, not picking up after their trash and then fleeing back over the border?

I agree with both sentiments here, honestly. No, being local doesn't excuse that sort of behavior (I'd personally never call it excusable), but I'm also a proponent of being on your best behavior if you're a tourist.

I completely disagree with any arguments against double-dipping/line looping unless a place expressly forbids it or you're cutting the line in order to do so. By definition, you can't loop ahead of anyone who arrives before or at the beginning of the sale and you actually are doing the business a favor by allowing it to return to normal operations sooner than it would otherwise have done so. (E.g., at More they can open the tap room and tipped employees can start earning sooner and at Binny's they can get employees back on the floor to help customers and such.)

Second and third drops last year included lots of Northwoods and a smattering of Coffee in addition to regs and barleywine.

Ooh, I don't necessarily agree with this, but I like the logic!

A persuasive argument. Next year, I'll be sure to make my family of 30 to wait in line with me and then we'll all loop back around a few times so we can get those under appreciated unpaid volunteers back on the job so they can help customer rather than presumably having to stand outside and wait for people to nab a BCBS allocation as they could be out their for days waiting on Black Friday!

Obviously not, I don't think anyone is saying that. On the contrary, people were saying "It's OK because I came out of town so I need to stock up".

I definitely met that guy's friend when I was up at CW last month! They were selling bottles at the taproom 2pp for a few days after the release and I stopped in on a Friday night. A guy was there alone greeting everyone who walked in and was giving them cash to buy him bottles if they didn't want them themselves...took the bottles out to his car, came back in, and found someone new. I guess i get it, but..like...c'mon dude. I'm surprised employees didn't kick him out.

For what it is worth, every single Binny's Black Friday I have attended (LP and Suburbs) the people at the front of the line have dropped their allotment off at their car and headed back for a second round if they could.

In most of those cases a few variants were gone by the time they went through a second time and they just got some barleywine and coffee.

I heard rumors that in 2015 people went through line 5 times at LP and got 5 full allotments... not sure if that is accurate, but I do believe many people at least went through twice to get 2 allotments. In 2016 and 2017 I don't think it was possible to line loop at LP because more than 1,000 people lined up prior to open.

Needless to say, since this year went smoothly, next year will be a shitshow again and looping will be a non issue. Although, the market for BCBS variants does seem to be weakening. Vanilla and Bramble with no more trade value than Vlad variants.

I was at the River Run event when they first released Black Gold (2014?), and I must say it was an amazing event that time. Despite being a FIB, there weren't too many of us yet to ruin it. So many locals just getting their bottle of Black Gold and opening it on the spot and just enjoying it with people. Not a thought about flipping it, or secondary value, or what kind of rare beer you could demand in trade. No lines for beer, no-one trying to score the "rare" beers on tap, etc... really great day all around.

Absolute best outcome, in my opinion. Then the people that actually want the beer will actually get it.

yep, i can't imagine the sheer number of bewildered customers wandering around that specific binny's who need staff to help them find a bottle of wine or sierra nevada mixed pack at 7 am on black friday.

I definitely agree, and while I think you're more making a statement on this in general, I'd point out that in the example above the person went to the back of the line before making her first purchase. So for a little while she was taking up two spots in line. Very different from the first person in line getting back behind the last person in line.

For something like this, I'd usually try to consider "what if everyone did this"? In this case, the true sell-out would have been when the 500th person got there; not when (I'm just gonna incorrectly assume she was the only one) person #999 showed up. And what if everyone who got there really early did this twice? Now it's down to 334 people taking up 1000 spots in line (I'll bet that one guy's kid from 2017 was taking up the final spot). Anyways, when one person does it, it's relatively harmless, but if everyone was doing it, the system breaks. Which means it's probably not morally OK. Basically, those two people think they are special.

More is a little strange about this concept. They marked hands at the most recent "open" Henna release (b4) but based on the number of people circling the line, it was pretty wink-wink if you washed your hands.
