I hope so, because OG was a thousand times better than VR imo. VR was a vanilla bomb, overbearing for me (but I know most prefer it that way). OG was waaaay more balanced.

Edit: Just read Josh's review. Looks like its definitely more of a vanilla bomb again, sadly (for me).

I appreciate a critic who sticks to his guns, has some swagger and doesn't follow the herd. The sass at beer culture/fanboys/trends in a large publication like the Trib is refreshing. A rah-rah review can be found all over the internet/apps anyways.

He's is most certainly a reporter. He's also a critic. If you flip through his pieces on the Tribune, it's very clear that most of his work is as a reporter. But - In fairness this particular article is a review.

I said I like the guy's work overall. I can also see where @ktr5010 was coming from. Sometimes it's just a little "dude, I get it, you don't like pastry stouts". I think you're focusing way more on the minor criticism of Josh that a couple people have made.

Man, People can be so sensitive.

As someone who actively wants vanilla bombs but still wasn't blown away by VR, I hope this one is the grenade of 'nilla beans I was hoping for. Keep your balance out of my sugar bombs!

Its really freaking easy to make a vanilla bomb BCBS. Split the bean in half, drop both halves in and wait 15 minutes.

For the record I tried a bottle where a VB had been stored in the beer for like 35 days, and it was anything but a bomb. I do not have an ability to put a cap on it I would try this at 2-3 months. When I did this at my house with a VB in the beer for 8 hours...I did not even know it was there

For whatever reason, I've never really wanted to mix my own variants. Part of the fun for me is drinking the beer as originally intended.

Although I have thrown vanilla into Dragon's Milk once or twice.

I do find it a bit ironic that when it comes to coffee as an adjunct, I want it to be a bomb. Any other adjunct I want to just be noticeable enough but balanced with the beer itself (which is why I don't go out of my way for sweet pastry stouts like the kids do). But a coffee stout/porter, i'm trying every one I can find.

Strange. Was the bean split lengthwise so that the vanilla inside was exposed to the beer?

This is what the glass looks like after drinking beer with a properly cut bean.

What beer are you drinking now? #1904

For the record, the last 1/3 of this beer was WAY too much vanilla.

If you want to make a different kind of bomb, put a bunch of beans in your BCBS, and wait 15 minutes after consuming.

(I feel like I channeled @HouseofWortship in this post)

    Yes to both.

With the one that was sitting for 35 days though, there was none of the sediment...our pourer brought a thimble-strainer, which was crazy handy. Never seen that before.

For the record, not saying I wanted it did not want a vanilla bomb (never had one), just saying what the taste was. I also got only very subtle maple from JOs black maple, whereas others say it is like getting kicked with maple.

I usually have very few problems identifying flavors in food, but in beer I seem to get a reduced sense compared to others.

Well in your case, I would stick with Mexican vanilla then. $1.50 per bean so you can put like 3 of them in your next beer

Those damn "Mexican vanilla beans" will do you in!

I've never heard anyone say they got a lot of maple out of Black Maple, except for liars.

It was nice meeting you and all, but yeah, never again. My wife asked if I was going to do LP again this year. I believe my response was somewhere along the lines of, "I'll never fucking do that to my life again."

    Risky sour line bro.

Jumped out of our Uber at 5:50am. In line by 6ish once we made it around all the dumpster fires (kidding/not kidding), 7.5 hours later I walk away with Reg and BW. While I'm pretty confident that 8 hours next to you in that line will have many highlights, out of principal, I just can't do it again.

Holy shit, 7.5 hours in just that one line? Damn I walked into stores here in Ohio got reg and 3 variants, and Reserve on tap.

Maybe being the first time available in Ohio assisted my experienced, but it was next to dead at any place that had it.

They should just do this like a beer fest releaset. You prepay a flat fee and just show up on Black Friday to pick-up your prepacked box of BCBS and variants. Max allotment only.

Over 1000 people and only 5 POS's and poor communication from Binny's = 7.5 hours. From what people reported on here, at any other Binny's I would've been one of the first 10-20 and been out the door by 9:15. I rolled the dice to go big, lost big, and I own that, but not again.

This would be fantastic. I've heard all year there is going to be some big changes how things happen at LP this year based on what happened last year. The other day I was told this may be what they do. I'm not banking on it, but I'd be down for this arrangement for sure. Even if it means I miss out from it instantly selling out. Hopefully I get Prop Day lottery this year and I don't have to worry about any of this.
