Heard from a guy yesterday that GI is dramatically changing the mix for BCS packaging this year -- rather than the usual 90 percent bottled/10 percent kegged they're supposedly going to do a 70/30 mix. Anyone else heard similar or anything different?

But production increases every year, so it’ll probably be a similar number of bottles.

Bottles are sitting on shelves in a lot of places. While I have no idea if they are really kegging more, you can't blame GI for trying a strategy to keep their product moving.

When both kegs and bottles are sitting next year, maybe 2019 will be the year we get tons of variants.

Bramble is pretty good. Much preferred it to midnight orange. But not amazing. Hmmmmm....

I'm not too excited for bramble just because of last years Northwoods. I had such high hopes and was so excited and... it wasn't for me. Not with the added "juice".

And as for midnight orange I really don't even want a bottle. I've had several other stouts of the flavoring style and it just doesn't work for my palate.

    Noon for general public.

Considering they can charge much more per ounce for stuff on draft, why not put more in kegs....

Yeah - I don’t understand why they don’t always have it on draft at Clybourn.

My initial impression of Bramble was good not great, mostly due to the fruit combo. I definitely got more of a real fruit flavor than I did in Northwoods though, which comes across as more artificial to me. I'd certainly like to try it again while not getting rained on and able to let it warm up a bit.

Northwoods was the worst Bourbon County ever made, and it's really not even close.

I was talking to my local shop owner today and he said this years allocations will be different than years past due to no coffee and Barleywine batches. If the mass distributed variants (bramble, vanilla, midnight orange, wheat wine, Coffee Barleywine) besides regular bcbs is made in relatively the same quantities, I wonder what to expect at smaller shops. Years past it’s been lots of regular, some coffee + bw, and limited or no other variants. Thought it was worth sharing to see if anyone else has heard the same

Smaller shop I'm always able to get an allotment at said she's getting all but reserve. Didn't say how much of each, though.

Am I wrong in reading that if you go to this you basically can't line up at Binnys for release, unless you are going to LP and make it through the line before 9am?

There are multiple sessions throughout the day. Typically you can't line up at Binnys and also make the first session, but Binnys LP opens at 7 this year so you could do it if you aren't too far back in line.

Otherwise just go for a later session.

FWIW, in my first conversation this year a month or so ago about BCBS with my local friendly Binny's employee, I was told that they were initially hearing less quantity of regular bottles this year, but a substantial increase in some variants bottles this year. So this isn't the first time I've heard/seen something indicating a possible change up. We shall see.

Makes since given the allocation at binnys is only 2 regular. Which I’m totally fine with.

Heard the same thing today but I think I heard it from the same guy you did. "Pre-FOBAB" event in Downers Grove?
