Near Nassau and Maiden? I'll be damned -- walk by that place most days on way to work and never woulda guessed they'd be slinging BCBS variants.

Anyone know of any Black Wednesday events in the city south of Central Park? I’m grabbing dinner on Macdougal tonight with some friends and wanted to try some variants before dropping cash on Friday. I want to avoid the mistake of purchasing this years midnight orange (whichever variant that may turn out to be this year).

I saw Dive Bar up on 105th is doing an event but don’t feel like traveling up there.

Yeah its on BeerMenus I believe. Popped in for a pack of gum on my way to work and saw it in the cooler.

Haven't had a variant since 2015 Barleywine. Perhaps I'll overspend to get a few of these.

Grabbed the Reserve Rye and Cafe de Olla from this place. Note that for any of the boxed beers -- 2018/2019 Reserve, or 2019 Reserve Rye -- they asked that you buy a non-boxed bottle to go with it, 1 non-boxed per 1 boxed. Not sure if that was required or just the guy upselling me, but worked for me as the two I most wanted fit that bill and I was willing to pay the price.

Doesn't sound right. There's just a limit on 2 per for the reserves. The rest I think there is no limit

Did they make you buy Regular to get any variants? They wanted me to buy one Regular to get a Coffee in 2017.

Edit: Just saw the post from @frozyn

No need to buy anything to get reserve. Just a two bottle limit

Strange. Such a classy place. Surprised to hear they would upsell any of their cherished customers.

2 or 3 years ago places were making you buy the Goose Island swill to get BC. This deal is actually pretty palatable, most people are likely getting regular anyway.

That referenced place is notorious for making you buy something to get something else.

Wasn't aware of this. But I walked out with some friends with what we wanted and nothing more. You should never have to buy one thing in order to buy what you really want

How is it you're connected to the beer manager there? I remember you posting that at some point, pardon my memory if that's wrong.

Food emporium does not require a purchase of anything to buy whatever. I was there last night and grabbed stuff with no regular purchase.

Cafe de Olla is superb. Reminds me of Carton Cafe Y Churro with a strong bourbon character. The orange peel is not very noticeable except for a slight sweetness/tinge on the back end. All in all, one of my favorite variants in the past few years. I’ll be grabbing a few more bottles.

I recommend drinking this soon. The cinnamon will fade overtime and that’s really what makes this beer so good.

I had the Mon Cheri and I liked it a lot too. It reminded me of a Nature’s Valley Cherry and Blackberry granola bar. Nice, thick feel too. Nothing dominated, everything melded nicely. The regular is stellar as usual.
