Hey, this is really bothering me now because I can't seem to find any pics anywhere...

Was at my local grocery store doing some midnight grocery shopping and came across a 4 pack of Bourbon County Barleywine for $17.50. Since it was after 12:00PM in Texas, I wasn't able to pick it up, went back to get it later and it was gone.

The price label reads 'Goose Island Bourbon Bar' (cut off). Boxes were dark green.. Didn't look close enough to see if it was labeled 'rare' or anything, figured since my local grocery store had it that I'd see it elsewhere, but I haven't.

Which year / variant of the barleywine was this? I'm having a hard time finding any info..

I believe this past year was the first time they've made a bourbon county barley wine, so if it was that, then it was this year's. But this year's was a brown label.

Rare is in 22 oz format, and is the only green labeled bourbon county I personally know of, but there is no way it is that. The only thought I have is perhaps the lighting was weird, and the labels were actually black? In which case it's just the traditional bourbon county brand stout?

If it said Bourbon County anywhere on the label I wouldn't care if it's pink, purple, blue, etc.. Im buying it! Sucks you weren't able to get it to share your finds.

My guess is it's Barley Wine with sun bleached labels.

No, it was most definitely GREEN, the exact shade of green the 'rare' bottles are. I'm kind of mad at myself for not picking it up.

It was nowhere near sunlight, sitting smack dab in the middle of the beer/wine section.

That's just a ridiculous find at a grocery store. Really good price attached as well!

Thats what I was thinking too man, it must be counterfeit!

I actually just got off the phone with a rep at goose island, from what he was telling me it sounds like it was just the regular barleywine, but its still going to be a huge mystery. I'm about to go back to the store and see if I can talk to someone who works there to find out what it is, its driving me crazy now.

I blame AB InBev, it has to be their fault.

But in all seriousness, that's some horrible luck man, I hope for your sake you stumble across another 4-pack or even a single bottle because it is a great brew. I paid $24 for my 4-pack too.

I would have slept in the store right in front of that 4-pack until they opened the next morning.

According to that price tag, that's $17.69 for one 12 oz bottle.

just so you know, occam's razor would be silent on this issue.

occam's razor speaks to predictively equivalent theories. for example, occam's razor is good if you're comparing

    1) did the engine propel the car forward?

    or

    2) did the engine + the existence of unicorns propel the car forward?

both theories involved make (let's just stipulate) identical predictions.

the problem with the theory implied by question (2) is twofold:

    a) the car going forward appears to be adequately explained by the presence of the engine. why do we need to posit the unicorns?

    b) the unicorns on their own *don't* explain the car moving forward (how do unicorns propel the car? where's the explanation?)

so even though (1) and (2) imply theories that predict the same results (the moving forward), (1) gets there with fewer steps.

occam's razor is: do not multiply entities beyond necessity.

    (1) has just enough entities to explain the car's moving forward to a given degree. (2) has *exactly the same amount of effective explanatory entities*, plus some more.

    ----

note, occam's razor must work this way for it to be worth taking seriously at all. when predictions vary, the simplest theory is almost never correct. e.g. theory: whatever universe-monster wants happens. why did the car move? universe-monster willed it. universe-monster creates and decides everything.

Neither my celly phone nor my unicorn was able to scan that bar code, and my calculator had a fit trying to use that $1.47 per fl oz for a four pak, it just works for a single 12 oz bottle. Or it should be $.37/oz. Dunno what you saw there.

    Competing observations :
One, Shelf tag is wrong for a 4-pak calculating $1.47/oz
Two, $1.47/oz for a 22oz bomber is $32.34 - not near a known price point for BC*.*
Three, Only one BCB* product had a green label and it was a 22oz.
Four, Total cost displayed is within several of the BC* products known to be offered in 4pk brown packaging.
Five, Green box for a 4 pack of Bourbon Barrel *.* is not known to be distributed -ergo the OP's question.
Six, Everything is stranger after midnight, the only time OP saw the object.

Somebody put a different pak in that spot or used another package for BC*.* bottles. Either that, or aliens which is arguably the same answer plus additional detail.

OP thinks it might have been a 4pk of this?

(: it's not occam though, it's just a bad theory.

    1) no 12oz green label BCB*
    2) thought i saw one
    conclusion:
    3) didn't see one

The UPC on the price label is for '13 Barleywine. No idea what was actually in that spot, because a green Bourbon County 4-pack does not exist.

Edit: since it appears they were selling by the bottle, perhaps it was in a generic 4-pack holder from the grocery store itself.
