so i opened my first BCBS this evening and i must say, not being a huge whiskey fan it was a real kick in the marbles. while it was enjoyable, i probably wont be opening the other 2 that i have any time soon.

My question then would be: Am I going to waste my time searching out a KBS to try? Huge fan of FBS but if KBS has the same whiskey profile as BCBS, i dont really want to expend the energy just to be disappointed.

Your in the minority I assure you that, stick to FBS if you don't like Bourbon.

I find BCBS to be a much bigger and bourbon forward beer than KBS but one that I enjoy so much more than KBS. In my opinion from what you said you may enjoy KBS more than BCBS.

more subtle on KBS, you really should try it especially if you dig FBS.

Yeah, as others said, the bourbon in KBS is much more subtle. Cracked open my first one over the weekend, and was surprised at how smooth it was.

i'm no expert, but other than the super whales that are made once or in minute quantities, i think ( of course my opinion only) KBS is the best in the game for Imperial stouts. parabola is close, BCS and all its variants are close, DL, abyss, CBS are all amazing, but KBS is the champion in my book. smooth as fuck, complex as all hell, it is the bomb.

I think bcbs is much smoother aged and kbs is much better fresh over the bcbs, but is also a beer that improves with some age.
Regardless, seeking out kbs would not be a waste of time.

The coffee/chocolate/roast combo masks the bourbon in KBS well. The caramel/molasses/chocolate combo in the BCBS lets it shine through.

If you want amazing and balanced you want Parabola.

kbs doesn't have much of a whiskey taste at all. definitely worth your time seeking it out.

i guess balanced was what i was expecting. again, not being a huge bourbon fan, maybe that is why it is all that i taste. will toss one in the basement and revisit next year.

I prefer KBS over BCBS. Fresh KBS is just outstanding. Bourbon in KBS is much more subtle than BCBS.

I strongly reject this notion that to dislike an excessively aggressive bourbon presence in one's BA beers expressly places one in the minority. I am huge fan of bourbon aged beers when the bourbon lends a nuance and depth of flavor to the base beer. In contrast, if the bourbon aging takes a complex and flavorful beer and turns it into nothing other than a vehicle for than thinned-out bourbon flavor, then I can do without.

Abyss ya'll. Soon to hit my cellar shelves. But BCBS is a big boys beer, no dissrespect on KBS as that is an amazing beer and rivals CBS on many levels. With that said, im still a bigger fan of BCBS then KBS. I appreciate bourbon foward beer with a proper balance.

They are both great in their own way. Why the heck does everything have to be a competition on this site?

fair enough, i will actually walk it down and carefully set it in its place but if it so much as looks at me funny it will be placed in the windowsill so it can bask in the sunlight for the next year.

I guess I am in the minority or I need to open the 2 KBS I have in my closet and try it again. I found KBS to have much more bourbon flavor than BCBS. I did drink a fresh KBS and an 09' BCBS, but preferred the BCBS much more than KBS.

I don't know if bourbon is a flavor that mellows over time, but the KBS was good, the BCBS has become my favorite stout of all time. I would trade KBS for BCBS anytime I had the chance.
