I recently aquired 2 bottles of bourbon county coffee 2012 , it was stated as "properly cellared", upon opening it had an immediate "stale" smell. I took one sip and it was disgusting, having had a few BCBS variants (excluding coffee). I could taste the base was there, but this stale flavor just overpowered it, making it undrinkable atleast for me, took one more sip to confirm my thoughts and tossed it down the kitchen sink. Is this normal for a BCBCS this old or was it just poor aging? I figured the coffee would be gone, but i did not think this horrible flavor would take over.

That is a shame. I have had 2 bottles in the last couple months and they were nothing short of amazing. I hope your 2nd bottle is better than the first.

BCBCS does not hold it's coffee flavor for very long. After about 10 months it's gone.

I've had two bottles of 2012 coffee since black friday and there are definitely differences bottle to bottle. The one I drank on BF was decent but not great. Coffee was still present but it was more bitter than fresh. The one I had two days ago was AMAZING and convinced me not to trade my last bottle on the chance it is as good. Coffee was definitely diminished but thats a good thing for my tastes and it was SO smooth and subtly sweet.

Last year around this time we did most of the Bcbs variants at a share. We had 10-13 coffee as well, and I don't remember if it was 10 or 11 but one of them was still a coffee bomb. We looked at which coffee was used and it was more of an espresso type like the '13 used.

I'm thinking they do a very strong coffee every other year. I just had a' 13 coffee a couple days ago, and a '14 the day before it, and I felt the coffee in the' 13 was still more present than the coffee in the '14.

We did a 12-13-14 vertical on Saturday and everyone (the 5 of us) loved the 2012 the best. Coffee was still present but faded in comparison but the base was smooth as you could want. I'm actually ISO of another 2012.

In my experience it doesn't age all that well despite the brewer's intentions. Can't remember when I last had a bottle which was singing after a year and a half.

In my experience, it depends on the year and how the bottle was stored. Some years, they use bolder coffee and that flavor sticks around a bit longer. Other years, not so much. 12 was one of those particular years that the coffee was very soft and floral, which was wonderful when fresh but I could see it not contributing much in the long run. Sometimes all that is left behind is the lingering acidity and bitterness from the coffee. Hopefully it was just a bad bottle and your next one is much better.

Drank a '12 BCBCS the other night - nothing short of amazing. Mouthfeel was smooth, creamy, just outstanding. While not as pronounced as fresh, coffee flavor/undertones were there. I had quite a few of these, they were properly cellared for the first 12 months, and have been in the refrigerator since.

another vote 2012 cbcbs, after having 12, and 14, 12 was leagues better, with the only downside being a diminished nose,

Anyone have a 2011 FT? I'm ISO that vintage. I had a 12 within the last month and it was very good, not as awesome as 12 BCBS, but right up there with the other vintages of BCBCS.
