I always see people posting pics of drinking old bombers of this on here. I know most coffee beers should be drank fresh but given the abv and barrel aging does this still develop with the coffee character or just become a slightly weaker version of BCBS??? This is my first year I have ever tried it although I have been drinking BCBS for some time.

I am debating whether or not to get a couple more 4 packs of BCBCS... But at the price and the fact I just do not drink beers at 13% very often, I was just curious if this was an exception, or if I should just stick with the few bottles I have and not bother getting more?

Buy more. trade them to me since they are super scarce in my area.

Coffee flavor will still be there with age. It just won't punch you in the face like fresh.

Was wondering the same thing too, I guess it takes longer for the coffee to fade than in other beers?

As for going out and getting more 4 packs, going to drop an obligatory #goandpickoneupformebro here. :grinning:

It ages well, but not necessarily for the better. The highlight of BCBCS is the big coffee aroma and flavor. That just fades with time. I usually some and store it in the fridge. I am sad when it is gone.

Maybe that's the reason Goose Island made so little coffee this year. They want everyone to drink it fresh thus raising the rating higher on BA. It's a conspiracy I tell ya.

Yep, I have learned not to age my coffee beers because the coffee flavors/aromas weaken considerably over time. The regular stout and barleywine should age wonderfully, but I would not age the coffee unless you want to lose a lot of the great coffee characteristics of the beer.

The coffee pretty much fades out completely after two years or more. This year is so robust that it may last a little longer. I would encourage picking up some and see what happens at 6 month increments

My experience with coffee beers in general is that the coffee flavor fades, but changes into a more chocolatey taste. It'll def be different from the regular bourbon county. Just depends on what you like.

I have experience in all of the last 3 vintages of BCBCS after about year the coffee fades and also starts taste like stale coffee. This year I think that the coffee may last longer because this years coffee is so very robust and its going to take a little longer to fade the monster coffee notes. This is easily the strongest coffee flavor that I have ever experienced out of the all vintages of BCBCS. My suggestion of you do buy more BCBCS is to put it in the fridge and leave it in the fridge. That will slow down the aging process a little bit compared to having it sit in a warmer environment.

This is the first year I got to try it and I thought it was the most incredible coffee beer ever. I would love to have more.

Don't age it. I have never had an aged one that was anywhere as good as fresh. We had a three year vertical a few weeks ago and it was unanimous that it was better the newer it was.

Last Christmas Day my wife and I split a relatively fresh 2012 BCBCS and followed that with an 8-Wired Batch 31.

The 8-Wired Batch 31 embarrassed the BCBCS in terms of coffee wallop.
It wasn't even close, and the 8-Wired Batch 31 was nearly a year old at that point.

Batch 31 is a very awesome and very underrated beer. Was glad to find a few bottles of that last year.

It will still be delicious after a year. Two years then you might be letting it go to waste.

Coffee is trading great right now though.

So you guys recommend opening the 2012 BCBCS now? I didn't realize the coffee flavor starts fading after a year. I have a bottle of 2012 BCBCS that I was hoping to age for another year but if the flavor does indeed start fading, I'm just going to open it for Christmas.

Hmm maybe I need to try it again I had last year's but it had probably been in the bottle for like 6-8 months. It still had decent coffee but not as much as kbs. Overall I felt kbs was much better along with regular bcbs. I thought most of the amazing qualities like the vanilla in bcbs was lost in the bcbcs. Maybe it was due to age or something I guess I need to try it again
