I felt the same way the first try I had BCBS. I thought it was way too boozy. Then I tried it about 5 more times and liked it more and more each time. The thing about Bourbon County is the bourbon flavor really comes through but in a great way. I've had other BA stouts that taste like a buttery mess, this one just has great booze flavor. The coffee is my all time favorite as well, I only had it once but am sitting on four more bottles of it as well as one more bottle of big john that I thought was good, nothing too great though.

The time will hopefully come where you start drinking higher abv beers to the point where these won't be TOO boozy for ya.

BCBS and the Coffee variant are overrated but don't write off all the variants I loved Bramble (must get another bottle!!!!) and I haven't got to try vanilla or cherry rye yet.

I'll try to answer a lot of comments here.

The booziness I was referring to is obviously because of the 15% ABV. I am a huge bourbon fan and I was still not fond of the bourbon county. I am completely fine with high ABV beers as I regularly have 9-12% beers and they are fine, this particular one just didn't do it for me.

Yes, I did purchase a cherry rye before I tried any of these because we got 2 bottles this year and it would probably be my only chance to grab one as I heard they won't be doing it again in the future.

As I stated in the original post, I am confident that with some age on them these beers are much better. However I do not know if I will get the chance to try them with age as CT barely gets any bottles so I made it a point to attend this tasting.

    Thanks for your thoughts

Even a few months of age on BCBS makes a big difference. I had a '12 fresh and has one last night (about 4 months of age) and noticed a BIG difference in terms of booziness. That said, I think the '12 smells very boozy (almost unpleasant) but doesn't taste boozy at all. At least that's my take

So, I gotta ask this thread, even though this question probably belongs in another. I have one 2012 BCBS left, because I gave the other two as gifts. (Totally worth the sacrifice. Beer karma's been very, very good to me.) How long should I age this before I try it again? Should I wait until 2013 comes out? I figure fans of this beer would know better than I.

There is no magical date that anyone can say that the beer reaches its peak because it's all personal preference, so I'd say drink it whenever your curiosity finally gets the better of you. To keep it until you get a 2013 version would give you an educational experience for a comparison, so that's what I'd do.

Just had a Feb 2011 bottle of Nightstalker last week and thought it was terrific.

I was surprised that BCBS wasn't more boozy, I wouldn't change a thing, in fact it's ruined me for other beers. Big John has a nice mouthfeel as well. I can work on a bomber for 2 1/2 hours

I kept a 2012 four pack aside and am in fact having one now in and around making Easter dinner, and I liked it better fresh.

Finally had Coffee a few weeks ago and loved it, slightly prefer it to regular BCBS. Both in my top 5 beers. Have yet to have any other variants.

I enjoy bourbon or scotch on the rocks with a cigar now and again so the term 'too boozy' is not in my beer vocabulary.
