I've had Regal twice on draft. The first time, I didn't get much salt and very little if any fruit presence, probably similar to what you were tasting. The second time (different keg, ~ a month later), the salt and fruit came through beautifully and it was a much better beer for it.

    As for the others:
    - Backyard is my favorite both fresh and aged
    - Cherry Rye is pretty excellent right now, but was entirely too medicinal fresh
    - I still haven't had Bramble.

I LOVED Regal Rye. Fantastic beer.

Same. Fantastic beer. I found it to be better than VR, Backyard, Bramble, and several other BC variants I tried on the same night this year.

Edit: I guess it was last year at this point; regardless, it was in the past 3 months

Man, +1 to that. This year's regular is so good. I'm not even sure I want to experiment with a french press!

I had two Cherry Ryes , I drank one I traded the other. For my palate that kinda says it all. I had one backyard and I traded it to a BA friend who asked if it was available, I was happy to pass it on. Sitting on a Regal, but it will sit at least a year.

Had Cherry Rye on tap recently and I thought it was great despite the cherry mellowing out over time. Backyard after a year was great. Regal has been my least favorite, but could be interesting in the future. Nothing tops Vanilla; match made in heaven w/ BC- drinking really well right now.

I guess I'll jump in and give my opinion since we've finally had some other members of the community chime in.

To me the sweet spot for most of these fruited BC beers is somehere between 1 and 3 years.

Cherry needed some time. I think Backyard entered its prime about a year in, and I'm curious to see how Regal does. I'm really interested because salt is something unique I've never seen in a beer like this, and I want to observe how this beer compares to others in the series.

Thanks to those who gave legitimate thoughts on the matter.

Not much advice on Bramble surprisingly. Figured that would have been more discussed.

I've had Backyard a few times as well as Regal and Cherry. Backyard is one of the best beers I've had (the times I had it were fresh and then about 9 months after its release).

I had Cherry for the first (and only) time last year and thought it was phenomenal.

Regal was disappointing, but I have a pair of bottles that I'm hoping to sit on for a bit to see how they turn out with some age.

I've always wanted me some Bramble Rye, but have never been able to find a bottle/get any interest on trading for one, sadly. So hey, if you're out there with a spare bottle and want to unload it, I'm all ears....:wink::wink:

Bramble, to me, was awful fresh. Traded away all I had almost immediately. Now, it's like the greatest thing that was ever invented. It's pretty good - had a small pour this past Thanksgiving.

Two year's back (2014) on Black Friday, the shop I lined up at had a single case of Backyard they raffled off. Wish I had gotten a bottle. All I hear about it is how amazing it is :/
