No worries! Back to the OP's point though, doing things like this I find just as awesome as the special versions of BCBS. I would suggest playing with your beer before hunting uber whales.

A more apt description would be you should compare the size of your haul with the size of the hauls in the beer **** thread. Your looking at the top 1% of hauls and there is a lot of fudging going on as @cavedave said. Ultimately as men everything turns into a big dick contest, such is the nature of our humanity.

@Connortripp my suggestion is to come to Madison for great taste of the Midwest they will have all of this years bcbs on tap before (they have a special great taste eve pre party like many brewery's who attend) and at the fest itself both in Madison. They will even have special variants just for the event. I had Templeton rye bcbs last year and Sumatran coffee bcbs the year before that, and cherry bcbs before that (not cherry rye just bcbs with Cherry's)

Totally agreed. As @cavedave points out, the haul pics aren't always just one guy in one go. For example, this is the pic I took when my beer buddy and next door neighbor and I stacked up our Thanksgiving haul:

I never bothered posting it on the 'haul ****' thread, but looks great as my screen saver at work! The reality is that this is the combined haul that got spread out over a few people.

Track down the distribution list for your area. This will show you what stores get what. And how much.

I was going to do just what you described this year and go to Chicago but life circumstances got in the way. I was still able to trade for Vanilla Rye, BCBS and BCBBW fairly easily, but I set up pre-trades with some good dudes before the madness began.

    Madison’s

    Goose Island Party! 3:00pm

Many of Goose Island’s rarest, biggest, and funkiest beers are served at this pre-party, including multiple offerings from the coveted Bourbon County Stout series of extremely limited releases.

    Boudonia
    BCS Barley Wine
    Kuperweizen
    Gillian
    Devon Ave
    Halia
    The Ogden

This isn't everything they had at the pre party for great taste but some to give you an idea if you find last years tap list look up goose and check out all the beers they bring.

Here's the link to the site so if you decide you can try to get tickets and stuff.

Body parts come in handy for rarer beers. Some people need a hand or a leg. Ive seen a couple trades go down over internal organs for Rare or King Henry but you're better off just getting into as many bottle shares as you can, such as in your area, or at a brewery near you or a craft beer bar also near you. Just try to get your lips on it instead. Having it as your own will be a much more expensive route in the off season. When November comes, by then, you should of acquired all the information by that time from BeerAdvocate, your local bottle shops and or the desire to go to Chicago, the Emerald City. YOLO

Chicago is a great city to visit. Contrary to popular belief there is more than beer in Chicago.

The craziness around this beer, and many others, has inspired me more than anything else to homebrew and chase that dragon instead.

In order to get a huge haul you basically have to be a huge douche who does nothing but tail trucks, bully teenagers who man the store at night or have an army of mules. Anyone who says differently is lying.
You're in MN, secure a good TG or Surly connection and you should be able to trade easily. It's also worth a trip to FOBAB to try some of these beers ahead of time and you can spend a few days in the city visiting the breweries, including Goose Island but also a bunch of other top notch breweries. Half Acre is a great stop.

I wound up scoring a case by calling a nearby store that sells a lot of Budweiser products. They're not known for craft, but made a special order for me. This helped quite a bit because there weren't any other craft drinkers that thought to even go there or inquire. The more well known craft stores in the area were only giving a 1 bottle allocation, but 5 minutes away, I was walking home with a case. They also gave me the case a few days before Black Friday so I was able to enjoy some on Thanksgiving. It's worth a shot for a case of the regular.

Yes, this is a good point...

A lot of stores that get it have no idea what they are getting...

My suggestions, for what they are worth...

I would start searching the internet for liquor stores that are within your acceptable driving radius. I would then drive to those places to see what they look like. Ask some questions, such as how much they were allotted and if they got any variants, how fast they sold out, do they have bottle limits, etc. Doing this alone, you might find some real gems at stores you've never been to.

During the year, keep up on what other local releases that people go nuts for that you might be able to acquire extra. Save a couple of them knowing that they can be traded for more BCS. For example, knowing where Toppling Goliath is in Iowa, and if you aren't too far north in Minnesota, it shouldn't be that far of a drive. Before BCS releases you can post to the forums your list and what you are willing to trade for it.

See if there are any local bottle share groups and get in good with them.
