so GI has announced there will be events in various cities around the country for the 2014 BCBS release, and Boston is one of them. Post rumors, speculation, etc here!

Here is what I have found on the GI events page:

    DATE Wednesday, November 26
    TIME 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

    PLACE

On Cambridge St, near the corner of Prospect St, Cambridge 02139
Corner of Boylston St & Gloucester St, Boston 02199

Get your hands on this year’s Bourbon County Brand Stout Variants!

    and then

    NOVEMBER 28
    Boston - Black Friday
    TIME 9:00 AM
Corner of Middlesex Ave & 9th St, Medford, MA 02155

For instance Boylston & Gloucester street is basically a couple bars and a Trader Joes - so my guess is the event is at Trader Joes? (do they sell beer there normally?). and in Medford that is the corner where Kappy's is.

    Hmm, consider me intrigued!

Edited to add: that Trader Joe's does not sell beer/wine.

I think both of those WED 11/26 addresses are about 30 yds from a Bukowski's location, right?

Sounds like Kappy's in Medford which makes me very excited. I was just wondering about this as this is my first year with the Black Friday thing. I can't wait to try the vanilla!!

hrm yes but that would be a weird way to describe the location of the Back Bay one. (as it's neither on Boylston nor Gloucester). why wouldn't they just say "on Dalton Street"? it's also not a bottle shop obviously but maybe these Wednesday events are in-house consumption only

To add to my confusion, the phrase "Get your hands on" implies (at least to me) the purchase of bottles. I would never say I "got my hands on" a pint of beer on tap.

I would be pumped about a Bourbon County "tap takeover" at a bar. But then I probably wouldn't go to it, and I'd just end up with my usual collection of their beers that I never, ever, ever, purchase on Black Friday.

I've continually ragged on members of my family over the years for wasting their day on Black Friday shopping sprees. My hypocrisy is about to know no bounds.

My guess is the Wednesday events are on-tap tastings. Friday being the bottle release. Hoping these beers won't be just Event only as I won't be in the City for the holiday.

It always seemed to lag here (WMass) for the beers to hit the shelves. Of course the year I will be traveling for Tday, it will happen and I will somehow miss out.

I plan to hit one of the smallest shops nearby, one no BA ventures near, and grab what I can. They got a decent allotment last year and it lasted until August.

what's weird is that Boston proper didn't get BCBS until weeks after Black Friday last year. I hope lots of other stores get similar allotments as last year and they aren't simply putting more bottles to these few marquee stores

I've found 13 BCBS around here and there. It's mostly about getting some variants, haven't seen those around in awhile. You find the right out of the way spot though, and the beer is there.

Kappy's Medford just posted to Facebook:

    https://www.facebook.com/KappysMedford/posts/976159609076617

There are rumors floating in the ether about a Black Friday GIBCS release party, featuring Goose Island, gift bags, limited release beers, donuts and more ...

I am writing now to tell you that...

    well...

    ummmm...

    THEY ARE ALL TRUE!

If memory serves there was a major Midwest storm which slowed down distro to the east coast. I was very thankful, as due to yearly travel plans I'm never at my "home field" package store on Black Friday. So I was actually able to score variants mid week after back at home. Not as optimistic this year...

Pretty sure Meadhall is doing a release party on Wednesday (7-10pm). I don't have a link to it but my brother sent me a screen shot a few days ago.

hmm but I know that other areas in MA got at least some variants well before Boston did. someone last year said that all GI is distro'd into Boston by 1 company, and that company was delayed for some reason. but western MA got it before Boston

Hmmmm, Black Friday, Goose Island. Hmmmmm, Black Friday, Big Box Retailers, Target and Walmart. Hmmmmmm, Black Friday, Anheuser Busch. Mmmmmmmmmm, as much as I would love to try those variants, I'm just not sure I'm buying this hype. I love Goose Island beers but after reading about ABs "own the distributor" 100% market share tactics, and their recent lawsuit in KY to go directly to the retailers (and squash the local competition in the process), despite the great quality beer, I'm moving faster and farther into the camp that doesn't buy Goose Island just because they're AB Inbev. Is this just smart marketing by the kind folks at Goose Island, or is this the AB machine at work? Probalby a combination of both but who knows? Hate to be the party crasher in this thread, but that's the way I see it. Heck, one less for me is one more for you, so enjoy!

I like this idea. It puts a lot of people in one place making it easier for me to avoid them and get my beer elsewhere.
