The ones I got in RI were 13.8, while the one at Yankee Spirits was 14.4. Looks like they were bottled different dates.

I'm convinced the Vanilla and coffee variants are made up fairy tales.

Ted's in Charlton had plenty of regular this morning, but variants were dwindling, seems very little made it to MA at all

I hope you're right. If so, it'd be nice if they could get their shit together a little. The whole buildup to this Black Friday release, and then... bunch of people empty handed.

I think having an official event at Kappys and then having 30 Vanilla there... I mean that couldn't have been the plan. Something weird must have happened.

Nah I bet that was the plan. I think they had around 40 bottles or so. Either way 30 or 40 bottles same difference when there are a lot of people (200?)

It's a Bourbon County Release Party, not a Vanilla Rye Release Party.

I understand what your saying @HighLowJack , but if I'm a betting man I'd say they planed on having 200 people and 40 bottles of Vanilla available. Hence why you got to choose either a 4pk of Coffee or 1 bottle of Vanilla , NOT both, that way as many people as possible could get Coffee & Vanilla. Just my $0.02.

They got lucky with two cases of Vanilla. Every other major account got one case

The smart thing to do would have been to sit at the bar at Tulips and drink/follow the Twitter feed until the release.

That sucks man. I was lucky with my bottle of Vanilla and 4 pack of Coffee. You will probably see the prick posting in the trade forum soon.

I'm going to join the chorus questioning the Kappy's release this morning. To be upfront: I place all responsibility for this event at the feet of InBev and the distributor, not Kappy's, because they did not dictate their allotment.

If you are going to hold an official release party for a major metropolitan area, you make an implied promise to provide enough beer to handle a large crowd. If you have doughnuts for 200, you should have variants for 200. Not necessary 18 cases of Vanilla, but at least enough Vanilla and Coffee to go around, because they knew that is what everyone is there for.

Inbev/the distributor got exactly what they wanted--they even called a TV crew to document they hype. If you want to profit (from free advertising/hype) by exploiting people who you know are crazy enough to wait for hours in line before 6am, and when you have a good idea of the crowd to expect (they had plenty of doughnuts and glasses, even though the coffee never came through!), then you should arrange to take care of those people by giving them what they want.

I'm generally not the type to get butthurt over beer, but I think InBev's move here was the wrong one (honestly, it was the TV crew that put it over the top for me!).

Just an FYI for those in Boston still looking, Pemberton Farms still has about 4-5 cases of regular and half a case (at least out) of barleywine being sold single, 2 4-pack max on the reg, not sure on the barleywine but I grabbed two singles and no one said anything.

Yeah my problem with Kappys is that regular BCBS is not hard to find here. So its silly to have a release party where the regular is what's available to most of the people there.

It's all about dat free snifter. Am I right? I agree though, regular is everywhere. Even barley wine isn't a chore to get. But to make a big release party for 24 bottles of vanilla and low amounts of coffee is rough. But the line was friendly at least, some nice convo, a cool little puppy, big ass donut. What else was I gonna do, sleep?
