If I was some place warmer I would consider waiting in line but it's pretty damn cold out there. My hats off to those of you brave enough (or dumb enough) to wait outside that long for BCBS. The beers are well worth the price.

Whether it's right or wrong, I think we can all agree it's a little pathetic.

If I were to guess, I'd figure they didn't think they would ONLY get 1 four pack bcbs and one variant. IF they knew that and lined up at 2:30, yea that's a bit much. Probably were expecting to walk out of there with a shopping cart of bourbon county or at least one of each variant. We all expected too much from a official release location. I wasn't that close to the front of the line but when we driving up I didn't think there was a chance I'd miss vanilla. I wasn't even close!

This thread escalated quickly. If people have the resources (time and money) and want the beer bad enough why is that pathetic? 2:30 was a pretty damn early time to get there for those that did, but whatever. Also, it was not that cold outside. I had Friday off of work, met up with a buddy and waited at Kappy's then drove around looking for the other variants we missed. I left my house at 3:30 am and got back at 1. I had fun bombing around and calling different places, and it sure was exciting when we found what we were looking for. It's a hobby. 2:30 am is a little extreme, but I wouldn't say pathetic.

With 200 people in line, you would expect to leave with a shopping cart of Bourbon County? Maybe I'm missing something.

I would think that at most, the expectation would be to leave with a four pack of each and a bottle of Vanilla. Considering you can get regular and barleywine with no waiting, you would be essentially lining up for 7 hours to get 1 bottle of Vanilla and four bottles of coffee. To each their own though, people can do what they please with their free time.

Sarcasm aside, i think the bottom line here is there should've been more beer to buy. Lets just leave it at that.

Maybe. But then again I've seen lots of posts where people were waiting obnoxious amounts of time and then walk out with one bottle of BCBS for $8.99 and finish their story with "well, I was happy to at least get that".

GI can suck it. Bourbon County is great but this a problem and if you can't see it after yesterday, you never will. But in case it's not clear here's my take (remember, I'm no mathlete)....

12 bottle allotments + 100s of people - 2:30am liner uppers / moldy bottlenecks and caps X outrageous pricing = Wrong.

Sounds more like an issue with the distributor than Goose Island.

FTFY. My local told me that a group was just standing in the store all morning, being in people's way waiting for this. Once they were told to leave they just waited in the parking lot for the delivery. He couldn't even tweet that they got it in before that group came in and wiped it out. Hobby? That is truly pathetic,

In all honesty, I'd love just two bottles of the stout, coffee, and BW. I couldn't care less about the vanilla (or, really, the coffee). I just have no desire to drive around and call stores and wake up early and wait in the cold. It's a fun hobby, but seems aggressive around the holidays. To those with the money, time, and freedom, awesome. Bummer I can't just walk into a store and pick up these beers, but it is what it is.

Enjoy everyone. Maybe I'll bump into a stray four pack or bw.

I was not expecting that, and I said right after that they it was more like 1 variant of each. I was just guessing why people lined up so early. If they wanted one Vanilla for being thats early fine, I'm just guessing they thought maybe they'd get more than 1 vanilla and 1 four pack of bournbon county. Considering the pictures I've seen of bourbon county hauls the past two days the phrase "a shopping cart full of bourbon county" shouldn't seem so crazy.

Those are people who clean out small stores or hit up a series of them. I dont think many of the huge hauls are people who attend these official release events.

The funny thing is that people could leave with shopping cart fulls of vanilla, there probably wouldnt be any line. Scarcity = demand = crowds.

Maybe I'm missing something, but all of this seems kind of fair. Just being first in line shouldn't get you a "shopping cart full of bourbon county" (if that's the phrase we are using). Seems fair to limit how much people can buy so others can try the beer, too. I'd be bummed if I waited in the cold on the day after Thanksgiving, watched someone roll their cart out and then got shut out just because they chose to wake up at 2:30.

Also, just because there are no limits at those smaller shops, I feel like it's kind of rude to clean them out just because you can. I feel like the general attitude should be more along the lines of, "Let's get what I need and leave some for some other guy who'd like this." Again, I think I'm in the minority for feeling this way, please don't attack me for that stance.

I expect to have a good shot a Vanilla on Monday, and after reading the early reviews, I'm not sure I even want it at $24 a bomber. Talked to several local shops and they all said it is coming in separately from regular and Barleywine, on Monday. Trading is what is driving people to stand in line, they want a trade worthy commodity.

I drank one before thanksgiving. It's really good and I want to drink every bottle I get haha, which so far is unfortunately zero. Maybe I'll get lucky next week : )
