@BoazReynolds , thanks for your response. First, obviously you guys have the right and the ability to sell your products to whoever and however you want. And honestly I don't have a problem with holding back some variants for your regulars. I am a supporter of the local bottle shops, yours included. Here is my main issue: when I inquired about your Bourbon County allocation prior to Black Friday, I was told your shop would be getting it on tap, multiple cases of regular BCBS, and an allotment of the variants. I was excited to hear that you guys were waiting until 2pm to start selling, which meant I would have a second chance at getting a variant. At no time was I informed that all of the variants would not be sold to the general public or "cherry pickers" as you described. When I arrived before 2pm, I was then informed that you only had regular. So I do take exception to your comment that your allocation policy is pretty straightforward and well known. At no time was I told that the variants were already spoken for, it was implied that they were not there at all. It was not you that I talked to, so maybe it was just a member of the staff that was not informed.

Also, a lot of shops did not sell their full case of variants to the public. Some only sold 6 and some sold as many as 10. Your shop is the only one I visited that received the variants did not sell any to the general public.

Hopefully if we are lucky enough to get an allocation of Black Note now that Bells is distributing here, you guys will consider selling some to the general public as opposed to just the regulars.

I don't think @podge_34 was implying that it doesn't happen at other stores and I know I certainly was not.

And here in lies my issue with policies like this: If you want to hold back your variants for regulars, fine. But don't then tell people over the phone that you're going to have them in stock when you know damn well you're not going to sell to them. You essentially pulled a bait and switch on @podge_34 and anyone else who was told over the phone you'd have variants available.

To be fair, most liquor stores you go to, only the beer guy would actually know the full info. Could be that the person answering the phone didn't know "the deal". I'm sure no one purposefully pulled a "bait and switch"

Most definitely. The vast majority the beer community wouldn't do anything with the intention of deceiving consumers, and I don't think anything was intentionally done here. I was merely pointing out that, in this particular instance, a bait and switch did occur to someone (intentional or otherwise) because of a store's policy. You're never going to make everyone happy, but this is an example of why I've never been a fan of policies like this.

That is what I am going to chalk it up to. I am going to assume I was talking to someone who did not know what the plan was. Again, I appreciate @BoazReynolds for responding and for his transperency on their policy in his post. Now that I know who Boaz is, I will be sure to seek him out when I have beer release questions.

And yes, I know the other local stores are holding back some of the variants. That is why my earlier post noted that most other stores were selling between 6 and 10 of their 12 bottle case. Obviously those other bottles were not missing when they opened the case, so they were being held back for someone.
