I have the opportunity to purchase the following set of bottles for $160. Not sure how good a deal it is so I will post that question to the good folks on BA. Is this worth my time or ridiculous?

    2013 Backyard Rye x1
    2013 BCBCS x1
    2013 BCBBW x1
    2013 BCBs x4

It's ridiculous. 80 tops and even that's too much.

    $160 / 7 beers (it seems) = $28.30 a bottle

    For basically last years beers?

Agreed, waaaay too much. Look at it this way, even with an extremely high estimate for what these would have cost last year, you're looking at the following:

    Rye - $40
    Coffee - $10
    Barleywine - $10
    Stout - $40 ($10 ea.)

And again, those price estimates are WAY higher than retail. Then wherever you have the opportunity to purchase these from is adding another $60 on top of that. I mean, every person's price is different, but that seems absurdly high.

    Lemme guess... *.com?

Backyard is 22 oz and the rest are 12 oz. Max $80 and even that is too much.

That's roughly $96 over retail. Do you think that's a good deal?

It's expensive, but buy it if you want it. We all spend way too much on something we enjoy very briefly, then piss out. It's not a rational hobby.

Yeah, that is definitely not worth it. Anything over 70 is probably not worth considering

I'm sure you have access to great beers, being in California. Try trading for those.

Oops...$110 over retail being that they're all 2013. Holy shhhnikes!

The only one that's worth the extra markup is the backyard rye. So if you've never had any bourbon county and don't want to bust your balls looking for it and have extra cash laying around then it's up to you. Personally I'd do 80 myself without feeling that much *****.

Everybody is saying it's too much by quoting the retail price, but you're not going to find these beers at retail anywhere, so that's irrelevent. It all depends on is how bad you want to try them.

The retail price isn't irrelevant even though you won't find it for retail anywhere anymore.

It's still a useful benchmark to help put a monetary value on the aging/scarcity of these 5 bottles. In this case, you're paying for ~$100 scarcity. That's a pretty high markup for beers that are a year old and could likely be obtained for far less than $160 worth of beer.

I'm going to concur with everyone else in this thread and say skip it. Those prices are way to high for the beers represented, especially something that has national distribution.

I saw some of your "Gots/FT" beers, those Russian River sours and Alpine beers should be able to land some of these bottles. I'd say a better option would be to put out a ISO/FT.

    Just my two cents

I'm adding up like $60 max actually as purchased, my Backyard was like $20 give or take if I'm remembering right, BCBS around $19.50 a 4 pk, BW about the same or $5-6 a bottle we didn't get Coffee, but $6 a bottle. $160 is getting ripped a new one.

Reminds me of the $19.99 BCBS single I saw on the shelf last weekend in San Diego, smh. I wouldn't pay that even if I had never tried it before

    • 2013 Backyard Rye x1 = $25
    • 2013 BCBCS x1 = $7-10 (before the 2014 gouging)
    • 2013 BCBBW x1 = $6-7
    • 2013 BCBs x4 = $6-7 x 4, $28
So $65-80 worth of beer in NYC (expensive) prices. Retail price matters because they're all easily traded for, well Backyard might be tougher.

Another vote for ridiculous. Depending where you are in CA, there should be plenty around to trade for the list. Backyard might be a bit tougher like others have mentioned, but it seems to trade for the least out of all the "Rye" variants. At least from what I've observed.
