I think between the brewpub tasting, drinking at the pub, swag, and getting my binnys allotment there's some rich kid in Belgium whose getting an Xbox this year and judging by the other 500 friends with me, he's probably getting a new playstation too.

Interesting, seemed more like chunks to me. Maybe that is what oil looks like though.

When chilled, coconut oil is a solid. Those are little bits of coconut oil floating.

guessing from all the fruit/spice variations of BCS that have never had any trace amounts of its addition and the fact that coconut is so frickin oily, its safe to say its coagulated coconut oil. Go to the store and buy some coconut oil, its a soild, like a thicker crisco. (And as a helpful tip, if your making popcorn on your stove, coconut oil yields the best results. Much better then weird synthetic orange stuff from orville or any other veggie oil.)

I wouldn't be surprised if they brand the BCBS currently sitting in old Heaven Hill barrels as something other than Rare BCBS. The 'Rare' was a reference to the barrels used, the last PVW 23yr from the original distillery. That, and John Hall may have stipulated in the InBev deal that Rare could never be reused, similar to the stipulation with King Henry.

From GI Black Friday Event - Rare will be the name and the barrels are 40 year Heaven Hill. I forgot his name, but he was a GI employee that worked in the barrel program.

Was this guy the one that was telling everyone that Proprietor's was only packaged in bottles? Because later that night my friend went to a bar that had it on draft...

Sorry, I don't buy the "nuh-uh, he said..." argument based upon anything from the mouth of a Goose Island brewer. They make the beer we love and I'm grateful to them for that, but they are not in charge of marketing or distribution and, based on all of the misinformation around Proprietor's this year (draft-only. NO, bottle-only. NO, WAIT...) I'd guess that they aren't always kept in the loop on those decisions.

That's what the Reader article said.

FWIW, the info page on GI's site lists it as available both in bottles and 1/6 kegs. Take with appropriate-sized salt grains: http://www.gooseisland.com/pages/proprietor_s_bcs/367.php

Wait for vanilla to make its way back into this series. Smaller batch is more manageable and doable.

take it for whats its worth, but the (mis)information squad at GI's black friday tasting said vanilla would never be done again.

Well, there it is. Also love the disconnect between listed ABV. 14.1 or 13.9: who knows!

I believe them when they say it won't be made again. Vanilla beans are a very expensive raw ingredient, and even more so if (as GI said) that they had staff splitting beans by hand.

I thought the final part of that story was the difficulty getting the vanilla oils off the equipment after bottling...

Oh jegross. You don't call, you don't write, sometimes I wonder if you even think about me. But when I see you post a response that is completely unrelated to my post and the topic in general, I know that you're thinking about me. All is right with the world knowing that I'm in your head (and your heart).
