The one we had at DLD was quite wonderful...

I probably will open mine in the next 6 months, though, i'm not sure more age is going to help it. it's smooth and mild and delicious, I think it would just start falling off (but i am no expert!).

I will say this, every Rare that has touched my cellar has been put in my mini fridge, kept around 50 degrees. It's so effing great right now, I want to keep it that way. There's enough rumblings around about Rare starting to fade that I'm doing what I can to keep it just like it is.

Had one in Feb for my birthday and it was excellent, although many people have said it's peaking. There was a touch of oxidation, but it didn't detract from the experience. I'd suggest keeping it as cold as possible until you drink it to minimize the aging.

Curious if anyone has had this out of the bottle recently. opinion.

(also, i know rare was in the barrels for 2 years; is that the same length of time for regular bcbs?)

Had one in August that everyone thought was superb.

And if it matters I've had Rare 4-5 times including fresh in 2010.

I had a bottle a few months ago and it was dreadful compared to the bottled I had in 2012. It was oxidized and the amazing bourbon character had started to deteriorate.

Nope, the extended aging time much more than the barrels is likely the cause of the differences between Rare and regular BCBS.

I had Rare at tasting late February (more than 6 months ago). There were some serious whales at the tasting -- close to 100 different bottles. Rare was fabulous, and easily in the top 3 best beers at the tasting.

I'd trade for it today in a heart beat.
