The majority of people on BA from chicagoland do not follow tribes on Facebook or Twitter. You throw it on BA and now leaps and bounds more people know and will go. Good for tribes, bad for people who actually want to get a pour of a beer.

Okay, I stand corrected. BA post>FB post> Twitter post > being "in the know"
    Enjoy.

I'll agree with this. The worst part about hyping some of these tappings is that you get 150 people in there until the keg runs out after 30 min and then they leave and never come back. I saw this at a few KBS tappings at places I goto. The place is packed with a bunch of people you never see again and regulars are angry b/c the place is over run.

I think it's kind of safe to say at this point that BA members are willing to advocate beer to fellow members by spreading knowledge of limited releases and bottles. The thing is, most of them would rather do it after they've gotten their share.

AlexHouston, you just fuckin' nailed it...thank you! People tend to get real generous - after they've gotten theirs. Myself included! This double standard horseshit is why I'm all for bars and breweries doing guerilla-style releases, like the way Map Room tapped CBS (got some) and how Bell's released Black Note (got none).

I for one appreciate the heads-up. I'm an adult, so I don't dedicate a lot of time to Facebook or Twitter. I do however to BA. And suggesting that someone is more or less entitled to a special beer release based on their regularity seems absurd to me. Isn't that the point of BA...to be "in the know"?

If I ever have to explain to someone what the Chicago craft beer scene has become, I think I can just link this thread and tell them to read through it. It has just about everything.

Is it really that absurd to reward your regular customers with a special beer? Your customers who give you repeat business over someone who has never set food inside the establishment?

Oreo, just because you are food, that doesn't mean you should discriminate against people who aren't food. They go into bars too.

I understand being disappointed when your special tapping is outed, but this is a bourbon county sightings thread after all. What I don't understand is calling the original poster selfish. We're all in this community to talk about beer and trade information. Attacking someone who is contributing useful info seems like the exact opposite of what we should be trying to condone here.

I probably would not have made the same post before the tapping, but at the same time I don't think it's right to question the motives of a guy who did. I'd suggest some good-natured ribbing through beer mail. Not publicly declaring that he's single-handedly ruined the day for everyone. That's a bit of an overreaction to someone who's apparently just trying to be helpful.

Happy I could bring about such a lively debate. I doubt it will be that crazy, BCBS is going to be everywhere in the next couple weeks.

I love bcbs but I can wait until this year's bottles are released. I hope they send out these kegs far and wide for all to enjoy

Very surprised by the negative reaction - couldn't have said it better.

Cheers to anyone who goes! My guess is that it taps out in 8-16 hours. Long enough that anyone who really wants a pour will get theirs. It'll be interesting, just for the sake of the argument, to hear how "insane" or how "dead" it ends up being, and how many BA's are in attendance that heard about it here first.

Well? Tapping was planned for Tribes 10 minutes ago. 10 people there? 100 people there? Any knife or gun fights worth talking about?

Well, good luck - hope you get a few.

Wish we had a bar like Tribes in the far west suburbs. Been there once or twice - in fact, saw you there - cool place and great beers.
