Hi, I have been trading beers since the lasts 2 years, without problem, even if I'm from Canada. Last week, a box coming from South Carolina was seized by the Canadian customs in Mississauga, Ontario.

I already sent the beers to the BA user in SC. We have a very good communication, but I don't know what to tell/suggest/force him to do !??!

When it goes wrong like this, what did normally happen !?

    Ever experience similar situation !?

    Thanks for your time

Wasn't there that one Canadian BA a few weeks ago that said they're now scanning nearly every box at one or more ports of entry and that it's better to just not ship beer to Canada?

It seems like if Alberta and Ontario borders are more strict. Bit when boxes arrives to Quebec , it seems still fine.

But my question is: ehat happen when the box is caught and I didn't receive my beers although he has the one i've sent him ?! Does he must replace it? Sending compensation money?!? Is there a not written rules when it happen ?

I offer him an american address so he could send a replacement package there...

    Anyone ?

The general consensus is that the risk of border/customs loss should be discussed prior to shipping and that a solution should be agreed upon prior to that time.

Suggest that you try to work it out with your trade partner and contact other Canadian traders to see their experience.

Does the tracking Info say it was destroyed by customs or just in their possession. If they have it you may wan to try and contact them. I know a few euro orders coming into the US recently have been seized and the recipients had to pay tax on the box which ended up being small in comparison to the value of the box I.e. the ordered $300-400 and we charged $15 tax.

I know that example involves us customs. But all governments really want to do is take your money, I hope it works out for you but if your expecting replacement you should at least try and get the beer first. Also it seems like in a past thread most people felt customs seizure was the risk of the recipient. I know it doesn't seem fair when one side gets there and the other doesn but its a known risk going in.
