I still have a few original Boxers but am trying to pick up some from batch 2 since early reports indicate more carbonation, which would be excellent! A bottle from CM in Austin has the green USDA Organic symbol on the label and a posted alcohol content of 10%, so I'm sure that's from batch 2. However, a bottle picked up in Houston yesterday that is supposedly from a new shipment has no USDA symbol and the alcohol is listed like the original...9.4%. Did I get batch 1 bottle, or are both types of labels being used? Hopefully Jeff at JK or someone else can shed some light on this. Cheers!
I had the same thing happen as well. Two bottles I got from CM Dallas have the USDA organic sticker and 10% on the label (supposedly from batch 2, but they were in the recent shipment they received), while a couple other bottles I have do not have the USDA organic sticker and 9.4% on the label (also supposedly from batch 2, one of the bottles was from Spec's Dallas from their most recent shipment they recieved).
Ditto here... AND, I opened what was supposed to be a batch 2 (with no updated label) and carbonation was very similar to batch 1 (which I didn't mind - still great beer).
I ask Ron Extract basically these same questions, and he responded with, "Both bottles are almost certainly from the same batch. At the time that we received our organic certification, we still had some labels that we needed to use up, so we didn't end up switching over to the organic labels until about halfway through the batch. All of the beer is organic, of course, just some of it shows it and some doesn't. The portion of the batch with the organic labels wasn't actually supposed to be released until the original labels had sold through, but with lots of customers chomping at the bit, i guess our distributor didn't feel that they could hold it back any longer." However, my question I asked him did not include any information about different ABV. Perhaps him or Jeff will chime in.
Another way to tell which batch is which, at least from the bottles I have (both my batch 1 and batch 2 bottles are the non-organic labeled ones) was the fill level. I noticed many of the batch 1 bottles had uneven fill levels and all the batch 2's were very very close and filled higher. That and I made sure to mark on the cap
Thanks, I'd been wondering about this. Got two bottles from this batch without the organic label, and one with.
Strange... all 4 bottles I got of Boxer's here in Austin have no organic label. I drank all my batch 1 already, so no biggie!
