I heard that this liquor store received some Cantillion in. I called to confirm and they told me that they did. I drove out from my home in parker and when I got there the guy said they decided to only give it out to their close friends. He then told me I could order some from europe. Worst customer service I've ever had.

LOL that is pretty shitty. They should have just said that on the phone, that it's already been spoken for.

Agreed, unless you're one of their so called friends.

Did you try Mondo Vino while up here? I've been out of town most of the week so I haven't checked. But sometimes they'll get a case or 2 in.

I actually hit that place up next (for the first time). The guy working there was awesome and friendly. They got a little bit in but was gone in a couple hours. They did have a good selection of other items though.

I'd boycott if that happened to me too.

Screw Mondo Vino! They told a few of us on Thursday they were getting some Cantillon but wouldn't sale it until Friday when they opened. Come Friday morning when they opened they claimed at first to not getting any, then claimed to have sold out because they only got 6 bottles, even though we were there when they opened. We watched them unload two cases.

Sounds like this will be the new norm when Cantillon hits, not surprising. Of course the employees are going to take their cut for themselves and their friends first, its just the way things go. Something similar happened about a year ago at Mile High Wine and Spirits and I haven't dropped a dime there since. :sunglasses:

Boycotting a store for one, even two, incidents may just hurt you in the long run. The way Elite seems to be playing this is that only a handful of stores will get some...and if you boycott half of those, your chances are cut further. There's a lot that happens 'behind the scenes' and managing 6-12 bottles for 50+ customers is going to step on toes.
    I'm glad I don't pre-order Cantylions; I don't want to deal with this headache

Boring old news at this point. The outward belching of bogus self entitlement is becoming a trite attempt to convey any level of knowledge or information that could at all be helpful. It's more of a comedy act for many of us. Thanks for all the laughs along the way, your contributions are always vain at best.

Some might be happy to know that all recent bottles were sold completely to the public.

Highland is a great store that is managed by some good people. Sorry Graviz had a bad experience, getting to know those behind the register might make opinions change. Cantillon is on the level of Pappy Van Winkle or Saxum by not only being hard to obtain but also backing up the creditability. Some buyers would be hard pressed to not think of some good regulars that would seriously jump with excitement at the prospect of purchasing bottles. Sadly, whatever is done, someone is going to walk away unhappy.

It makes the thought of a local BA meetup that much more enticing.

This issue is don't tell someone that you got some in over the phone that's driving from the other side of town and then pull the rug out when they get there. Just tell me they don't have any they could sell before I make a 30 minute drive. Plenty of other great stores out there so I don't think anyone should waste their time at a store like this.

I follow MHW&S on both Facebook and their "Notes from the Beer Cooler". After I saw their FB posting of the Cantillon, I called to reserve but they were already sold out. I then checked FB: "Posted 17min ago". that was fast! but oh well. it's just beer.

but what was rather peculiar, was their website wasn't updated for a day. When I checked it and it finally was current, it had the Cantillons listed, but had "**UPDATE, SOLD OUT**"

no kidding? just a day late to post it? so what is the point of even posting it on the site a day later after it sold in minutes? just to say your store had it? bragging rights? of course i know MHW&S pretty much gets the goodies around denver, but c'mon... too little too late.

That would have been a pretty good post if you had been able to leave out the snarky personal attacks in the first paragraph. Nice try :sunglasses:

Good gravy, friends, it's just beer. It's good beer, but still beer. I'm not sure what I'd do if I only received 12 bottles of a rare beer...probably tell no one and buy it myself. Or would I?

    Still, just remember...
    • Don't trust the Internet. Updates take time to write/post. Servers can go down. Typos are freqwent. The IT guy may be sick...
    • The "beer guy" at a store gets days off. Sometimes he/she is not there when you are (or when you call)
    • Don't expect store employees to know your story, where you live, how far you've driven or how much some beers mean
    • Customers first want honesty, give it to them up front
    • I love beer (you can trust this :grinning: )

Or... Trust a store that does specific release date and times, not just throwing rarities on shelves when they come in. Or use the hush hush, wink wink, here's a couple bottles of Southern Tier Creme Brulee method :sunglasses:. (Still ISO BTW)

Look out next Saturday... or Thursday I should say.

All the bickering is ridiculous. Lets just be honest all places call there buddies when the good stuff comes in, That's fact don't dispute it or i will call you out. I didn't name your store specific so don't embarrass yourself..

Sometimes the internet sucks. I would love to have a get together with Bardwashrind and ArrogantB and see what happens, I'm sure all this stupid disagreements could be hashed out over a good beer.....

    Cheers

    I blame Elite.

Possibly unfairly...but in my former life I found they had a hard time keeping promises, to me at least, because they'd get pressured by their "best" customers. Suddenly the two cases (well, in my case, the two sixtels) you thought you were gonna get, somehow, vaguely, "got away."

Then you'd just wait and listen to that week's beer show on the radio, where you'd usually figure out, from the promos, who got it.

Oh well, in the words of The Dude, I can't be worryin' about that shit...

Good post. I actually thought the same thing earlier today. I bet Bardwashrind and I would probably get along swimmingly in real life but we've developed a mild animosity over stupid bickering on the Internet. I'm going to drop it and if I ever run into him in the real world I will buy him a beer or three. :sunglasses:
