IT seems that IN-BEV/AB are hands off Elysian, GI and 10 Barrel now, but if that article is to believed it cant continue like that for long.
The bean counters will be around sometime in the near future

This isn't directed specifically at you, but this comment brought back a thought I had a couple days ago. Why do people accuse CBA of "selling out" when they sell 32% of their common stock to AB, and yet no one seems to accuse Founders of the same thing when they sell 30% of their company to a company in Spain?

Suum quique...like me filling up the growler on 10 Barrel The Pearl, today @ the Flanders taproom, for $10 (it's like H.U.B. & Pallet Jack had a delicious baby) & being blown away by their Uberweiss Marionberry. It's fantastisch!

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of breweries who participated in the past did so because of Dick. With his departure, lining up breweries is/was probably difficult for Elysian in a way that 10 Barrel didn't/doesn't have to overcome.

Yeah great article but it's long and I limit my attention span to 140 characters.

Good read...you know how I feel about the 10 Barrel people. But I do respect Dick for being true to himself. I also fear what the future holds for anyone in brewing...changes are coming to my dear Breakside, even.

I linked the press release link in the Breakside "issues" thread. A few key position hires.

Oh... those are just normal changes of a growing business. I was worried there was something else.

I really don't understand why you're so afraid of a hiring of an R&D brewer, lead brewer and a COO. Those are all normal things for a large(r) brewery.

They aren't large, really. They are likely bursting in Milwaukie, capacity-wise, however.

I guess it plays into the growth, like you said. I just feel like it's either pull a Barley Brown's & stand pat or grow exponentially. Bringing sixer bottles to bear on the market will undoubtedly skyrocket demand for their flagship...I can be persuaded that this COO hire will be the lynchpin to making that profitable. They are at a crossroads, & to deny that is folly. We'll see...said the blind man. I feel this is entirely normal, & the product won't suffer it to pass. Coming from Boston, I'd prefer breweries to stay niche, but come what may, suum quique. Options abound.

It's easy to boycott a brewery because of ownership but what will you people do when you absolutel "favorite" brewery gets bought by a big company and "sells out" to them? I would venture to guess that you would support the employees who work there and sill make the same great beer that you love and due to that you will probably still drink their products. So if the beer still tastes great and it is made the same by great people then why do you care who writes their pay checks? Good beer is still good beer. And to those that still boycott??, Well then fine, more for the rest of us to enjoy. Cheers!

I mean they're kinda large for Oregon standards. They're obviously not Deschutes/Widmer/Portland/Full Sail large, but most breweries in Oregon are pretty small, 20,000~ bbls isn't exactly neighborhood pub. Barley Browns seems to be going more New Glarus strategy of making local beer for locals, while Breakside is going more Ninkasi. Strong local footprint, but a bigger regional one too. I'd prefer them to stay small too, but as long as they keep doing what made them great like being creative, experimental, and making good beer, I wouldn't sweat.

I wouldn't (and haven't) bought their beer. I used to love 10 Barrel sours, Tonya Cornett is an amazing brewer, but I won't be having any of her beer while she's still there. Ownership matters because economics and history. On the economics side, buying local keeps 4x-5x the amount of the money earned in the local economy. There's to much good beer to be sending my money I spend on good beer to Brazil/Belgium. And historically because inBev & co have a horrible past of shutting down their acquisitions, pushing legislation to hinder smaller craft brewers, distribution, taking ingredient shortcuts, and things like that.
