And this is a good example of hat is good about 3-tier. Theoretically anyway, a distributor would want to see all the brands it carries do well. If all breweries could self-distribute, regardless of size, it wouldn't take long to get back the the old Tied-House system.

Shrug. Hate to sound cynical, but this just sounds like the same old, same old at Ab-InBev. They've gotten away with this sort of nonsense in the past, so no reason not to give it another go. Even if the DOJ finds they acted improperly, I doubt they'll do anything more than levy a "hefty" fine on them. It's just water off a duck's back for ABI.

This is an interesting alteration to the 10 Barrel Pray For Snow label:

Am I the only one who remembers them saying something to the effect of, "Nothing will change. All the beer will still come from Bend", or not?

It was referring to Vernside, Jimmy & Whitney's 10 Barrel FH Cascade pale ale. & Cowiche's Citra/Simcoe mix is my 2nd fave freshie...even w/ only 12 oz. to enjoy! Cheers!

Aside from the Boise & PDX brewpubs, this surprises me. Recipe made it to ABI's brewery, apparently.

They are doing this to all of the companies they buy, just like Goose Island, for a lot of regular lineup beers.

Yeah, if this surprises you, you haven't been paying attention. This is expected.

I meant that as a jab re: the outsourcing to Ft. Collins. & a general meh twd traditional winter offerings. Haven't liked them since I stopped drinking Old Fezziwig & Holiday Porter...but they were good when I liked malt, more.

read a little bit differently, their goal is >98% of the market share.

think about where your dollars go, and boycott these assholes everyone.

    Preaching to the choir.

When I first became interested in craft beer, back in the early 90's, AB got into trouble for similar BS. Where I lived in California, there were a number of "AB house" distributors, and AB threatened not to sell them any product if they carried any microbrews. Back in the early 90's, that was a pretty big deal, as sales of bud were how most distributors made a living. This little ploy had a noticeable effect on the growth and livelihood of several local microbreweries at the time. AB was pretty rapacious when it came to the retail side as well, providing incentives and other kickbacks to have stores feature their beer prominently in the most desirable store areas, while relegating micros to out the way spots in the store (among other things). Shrug.

Been 25 years now, and my how little has changed when it comes to AB's sales practices.

Have broken down and purchased the occasional BCBS variant over the past few years, but have not purchased anything from any other "AB owned" craft brewery. I doubt that's going to change any time soon.

(It's not exactly on topic, but I don't really want to start a new thread...)

I was looking at a can of Cucumber Crush and I noticed that it says "beer with artificial cucumber flavor added." Isn't that counter to the whole Crush concept? I thought that Tonya had said (paraphrasing) that the reason they never bottled any of their Crush variants was because they basically just use a ton a fruit to get their flavor, and it's not really economical to mass produce.

While I can't find the source for where I heard that, I wonder if this "artificial flavor" is another sign of In-Bev moving in. At least the can still says that it was brewed in Bend, OR, but I'm pretty sure the original Crush series didn't have artificial flavors.

along the same lines. I had the apricot crush at the Bend pub years ago and thought it was phenomenal. even bought a $20+ growler of it.

had it again a few weeks(month?) ago and really thought it was pretty average. just a tart beer with very little apricot flavor.

either way, I never drank much 10 barrel or Elysian anyways so I dont care much about AB-Inbev

Had the exact same experience as derftron. Had Apricot Crush on tap before the sale and loved how fruity it was. Had it again at Loyal Legion post-sale and was totally underwhelmed. I didn't even think it was average.

I'll be brief. Wait I am seldom brief. I will be exact. Boycott them please, if that makes you happy. I drink beer because I like it. And there is no shortage of beer here or anywhere. Little things often grow big. Ownership changes and recipes too.

I like your perspective - When you see a carrot you expect a carrot. Not Del Monte. How is Del by the way? Sorry I digress. I don't drink much of either of these Junior Titans. I certainly will not be hefting a can of America even knowing what it is. So to you I say cheers - I'd let you buy me a fine local Seattle beer over at Beardslee's public house anytime. And to the rest of you who disagree and want to drag me into Elysian or B10 - I'd probably let you by me a beer as well! That just the kind of guy I am. I'd likely return the favor at my bar as well.

At one point Starbucks was a cute little shop in Seattle. Now they are the evil empire. Times change. Buffalo once roamed the land and weed was illegal - not all change is bad. Don't get buffaloed by ego - or fooled by fancy labels. To thine on brew be true......

Can't speak to the intent behind the series but I wonder if artificial flavoring is used for the Cucumber variant is that it would be hard to get as strong of a cucumber flavor from using the actual fruit.
