?

Would you support a craft brewery who resisted a macro buy-out if you didn't like their beer?

Please answer this if you currently boycott craft breweries that have been bought by a macro.

I won't buy beer I don't like regardless of the maker.

I will not buy beer made/supported by AB-Inbev for 2 reasons

1.) They have enough supporters(Bud drinkers)
2.) Their shady buisness practice and treatment of other craft brewers like DFH.

There are also so many other beers out there that it is not a big deal to me.

Would you buy a Goose Island beer if you really liked it?

I don't care who makes it.

    Good, I'll buy it.
    Bad, I'll pass.

By the reverse thinking, all of us should support crappy locals just because they're (a) small craft brewers who are (b) local. Not gonna happen. I'll support any brewery that makes great beer, period.

I don't/won't. That means more BCBS for everyone else!

Yeah I'm of the opinion that business is business and I am not going to hate on the big boys for trying to stay on top. If an independent craft brewery makes good beer they will be successful, if BMC buys them and they still make good beer I'm fine with that too.

No, I wouldn't care if they resisted a macro buy-out. If I don't like their beer, I'm not supporting them.

bad beer, good business practices = no buy
bad beer, bad business practices = no buy
good beer, bad business practices = no buy
good beer, good business practices = buy

hope this resolves this extremely complicated issue.

I don't drink Bud Bud Light Coors Miller ect cause they are gross and I would have to drink 12 to catch a buzz and I would be bloated way before I got buzzed.

I can buy a Pannepot (just one example) for 6-7 dollars at my local store and actually enjoy it and catch a quick buzz instead of paying the same for a 6-er of bud which will just give me a headache and make me feel bloated .

    It's that simple for me.

I am too simple I guess, but if it tastes good, for a decent (read cheap enough) price I can afford, its going to be consumed by me. I tried bud ale if it had been good I still be drinking it.

as it is everytime we go out and its not a good beer bar/pub place I drink draft Blue moon and I like it. no fruit of course.

I buy a fair amount of Hoegaarden, and I will continue to do so. I will always buy Unibroue products (owned by Sapporo). I would also buy BCBS from Goose Island; however, I find it too cloying as it warms.

    Good beer is good beer.

Always thought it would be funny if corporations were allowed to boycott certain people! You know, you don't like big oil, you're not allowed to buy ANYTHING produced by big oil. Don't like "big corporations", then you're not allowed to buy ANYTHING produced by corporations (big pharma or big medical diagnostic included). Just think that would be funny!

There is no reason to ever buy a beer you don't like, except as a gift for someone who likes it.

i haven't personally seen any craft brewers do the kind of bribery / power play bs that the big guys have, but i'm sure bar owners have seen such things. (and store owners, and rival craft brewers, etc. edit: i'd have named lost abbey for their reaction to flat, non-recalled bottles, but they seem to have fixed all those problems now--didn't recall, but recognized QC and PR problems and fixed)

"business practices" can be expanded to ethics in general too, i guess. i would hesitate to buy clown shoes because of the way the guy responded when candice criticized their labels. wouldn't outright boycott, but he doesn't seem like someone i want to support when other people make so much drastically superior beer.

it's not cut and dry or eternal or anything... definitely varies by case and would be subjective from person to person. but the fundamental model "good beer, good/neutral practices = buy," isn't too complicated.

    ---

edit2: also, my whole idea of ethics is a bit different than what i infer from others on this board or people around me... i wouldn't boycott in an effort to get everyone to know that i don't buy BMC and to improve the pahn ethics scorecard. i've never really been concerned with ranking people (myself included) by goodness. i try to do ethical things because i care about the situations themselves, or because i think some good results might come from my actions.

Personally I think it's silly (trying to be nice here) to drink bad beer because you like someones brewery practices and deny yourself great beers because you don't. You are really only hurting yourself in the end.

I only buy beer I like. If they've been bought out then I'll still buy it because I support beer that is good and consistent in quality.

If the beer is good, I buy it. Unless the maker of said beer is doing something egregiously reprehensible, I don't care.

Corporate bullying tactics don't meet my criteria of "egregiously reprehensible."

Or as a gift to someone you don't like but have to buy a gift for.
