Thinking about relocating there, whats your impression of the area and the beer scene? This isn't my primary concern before picking a place, just curious as the interwebz provides little info.
Beer in MT is on the rise. Lots of quality beer you just gotta search a little bit. Most of my favorites are tap only. Bozeman is okay 406 brewing is hit or miss kind of inconsistent but they won't hold onto a recipe if they don't like it. Bozeman brewing has a pretty solid core line up. In Belgrade nearby they have Madison river which is decent, some people like it a lot more then. Myself. I love bridger brewing. They are gluten free but you can't tell when your putting them down. They are a lot of nice restaurants and bars, and stores. And distribution has steadily been getting better. Plus you have big sky resort an hour away which might be the greatest place on planet earth. The town has a great vibe, and culture, as well as music scene. I live in helena which is the opposite. Except we have blackfoot river brewing (my favorite brewery in the state) and lewis and Clark which is really solid.
^^^This gentleman is correct. I lived there for a year. Bozone is right downtown, 406 just up the road. A great place to stop on your 17 minute drive back from skiing Bridger. Bridger Brewing is right on campus. I see Old Chicago is going through a complete remodel, not positive if the beer will get better though? Rosauers is a higher end grocery store with a great selection. I pretty much bought beer there exclusively. Plenty of other stores and co-op with good selections. Montana Ale Works is a great restaurant/bar. They have 9 ft. pool tables too. They don't brew but always had an awesome selection. All the bars are walking distance to one another. Plenty of patio seating. You'd find your niche considering many of the bars cater to college kids. It's a cool town. I'd move back in a heartbeat if I was actually able to land a job out there. Only reason I left. It's been 2 years since I've left but the town keeps growing and growing. I imagine it'll only get better.
Would you guys say that the town can feel small at times, or does it feel larger than the population would hint at?
I think it feels bigger then it really is. But like every town in MT it can feel really small. If you like the outdoors it's the place to be.
