Thought i would share this pretty irritating situation with Bradley's in Tustin.

I have spent a lot of money there over the past few months and became friendly with the owner. We always chat about beers and he will hold a bottle if something really good comes out. We had a discussion about how stores that sell out of market distro beers are illegal and how he is working on getting some sort of license to bring out of market beers in. Trying to get some good beer kharma, i brought him in a FFF and a Bells from my personal collection to enjoy when i went in last week to buy some things. The owner thanked me and told me he couldnt wait to try them as he never had before.

Fast forward to today, i see a thread in the general forum of a local picking up the exact two beers i gave to the owner. I messaged this really nice BA and he confirmed that the owner sold him these two beers. Not only that, but he said that t owner topd him he got them because they are now distributing them to CA.....now the BA and i are laughing at the situation because it's just too whacky.

To be clear, i have bought out of market beers from other OC stores so that isnt the issue. I am more irritated that he sold two beers i gifted him from my cellar

Guess i was naive but at least the BA gets to enjoy some of my beers (although at a higher price)

Pretty simple. The owner is not a BA. He is a mega douche tool who only cares about a couple of dollars. I would tell this story to everyone who will listen.

This is somebody who charges $8 for Pliny so I'd expect this. Craft beer is exciting to him as a means of profit, and not much more.

Did you ask what he bought them for? Curious.

Not good beer Karma at all. I've been meaning to take that guy beer as well, as we also have some good beer convos. Glad I haven't, and now I won't.

I got there all the time. I live about a minute away. I was just there picking up a Parabola last Friday. Crazy. I also thought about kicking down some beers for the beer help...

This happened last Friday at around 2pm. He held me a Parabola and that's why i came in. Funny story, he told me he didn't have enough Parabola to sell two and that i bought the last one....SMH

Definitely. Ask him how he enjoyed the beers. If this guys is as much of an asshat as he sounds, he is already reading this and coming up with his story.

I hope the situation is at least mentioned to him by several people, and I know I'll say something. This type of practice is a HUGE step in the wrong direction by somebody trying to win over craft beer fans. I personally plan to tell him why he lost my future business.

This is hilarious and really sad all at the same time. To be honest, I'm really not that surprised. He tries to come off as a BA, but I've always got the impression that he knows nothing about beer and just tries to play the part for $. Did anyone see his "Parabola and Sucaba (aged)" FB message last week? The "aged" was the most recent Sucaba and he then said that both were 2012. Obviously, Parabola was this year's. He also always tries to promote a lot of common beers as "rare".

I got another chuckle as well because I was one of at least three people now that he said got his last bottle of Parabola.

I saw that FB post and felt pity on their ignorance.

I've also been told I got the "last bottle" of something from there. I'm glad that this is now out in the open.

I was hesitant to mention how I always thought he came off as a "fake BA", but yes, I got that vibe as well when talking to him. His comments were always very shallow and generic about beer, letting you lead and just acknowledging. He asked me the first time I went in what I thought of his selection and what I'd keep coming back to buy. That alone told me he wasn't in it for enjoying the beer but rather as a means of profit. The Facebook posts also show this, like when he posted about La Fin Du Monde as if it was something exciting.

Lobster, lobster, lobster, mediocre beer with a bunch of hype, and more lobsters.

I've also stopped by Bradley's on a few occasions and always felt a "used-car dealer" vibe from the place.

I get Pliny and other RR's from him quite a lot, usually once per week. He charges me $6.99 for the Elders which is fine with me since I get one every week with no hassle.

He's a nice guy, but he really does not know much about the beers he sells. Definitely has that used car salesman attitude ... 1 bottle limit on a lot of the "good stuff" and then always tries to sell me other beers. Then again, it's a small wine shop and I can't really blame him for trying to make a profit. He's a salesman, and most salesman in any field are generally full of crap.

I have chatted with him extensively about his plans for getting a distro license and sending a truck around the U.S. to many breweries that don't sell in California, and I am all for that. He's also railed against some of the other wine shops that sell out of market beers, so I think it's interesting that he sold the two beers you gave him. I am going to mention that to him next time I am in.

You should also mention to him that he sells Pliny for $8 bucks to "everyone else". He did mark down my Parabola to 12.99 but that doesn't give him the right to sell two beers that were gifted to him.

You got the same BS spiel I got about his "truck plans" and how he hates places like Vendome who sell out of market stuff illegally. Like I said in my OP, i don't care about the out of market sales as i am guilty of buying them at other stores. I can't give my money to someone who sell's gifted beers to people and tells them that he has them because they are now being distributed in CA.

Yeah, selling your gift beers was pretty weak. I was in once when he was dropping bourbon shots into Pugachev's Cobra, so I don't think he's always in his right mind, LOL.
