Why bother trying to categorize it? If you like super hoppy/bitter beers and would like something with a lower ABV, this absolutely cannot be beat. I think this compares favorably to Zombie Dust, which everyone loves at 6+% alcohol. But this beer throws everyone off by being 5%. I only wish they canned this. Thankfully, because it's low ABV, I can actually drink a whole crowler of this without getting crushed.

Anyway I love this beer. Definitely supplants yellow rose in my book. Meta Modern is nice too, but for me this is better. I"m a little tired of Mosaic hops at this point.

Heaven forbid a beer not being true to style.

You know what they say about opinions?

IMO, Yellow Rose and Meta Modern are both better. So there.

Also keep in mind that this is the very first batch brewed on the big system. I do enjoy the beer and drank a lot of it over the past week, but this isn't the finished product. It is definitely more bitter than the batches that were done on the small system. Give them a little time to get it dialed in to exactly where they want it.

You can't compare EZ-7 to Zombie Dust, it just doesn't work.

It is named after a skate spot that has been around since the 80's (maybe longer) 43rd and TC Jester, which is fairly close to Petrol.

Thoughts on the second batch of EZ-7? Given my previously expressed love of the first batch, it didn't surprise me that I liked this batch less. It is clearly thinner tasting--more in line with other "session IPA's" but it generally maintains the traditional west coast hop profile (thought that's been dialed down quite a bit too). I think this is a failure personally. There are a ton of beers like this on the market. As far as I know, the first batch of EZ-7 was very unique for a low ABV supper-hoppy pale. I hope they move back to something more like it the next time.

In related news, ***** Wagon is awesome. I'm looking forward to more great beers from Brash, and I'm definitely looking forward to the public opening of the Brewery in October!

Disagree thought Batch 2 was much better. Hoppy sessionable beer. EZ-7 is meant to be the beer you can drink a bunch of throughout a day when it's hot. Batch 1 was way too bitter on the end. I liked it but it's not something I would have more than 1 of, with batch two I could definitely knock back a few.

***** Wagon was good, but their batch for Hay Merchants Anniversary party was almost perfect. I think they'll dial it in and get more of the citrusy goodness with a couple more batches. Up scaling their recipes I'm sure has a little bit to do with it.

We're in complete agreement but for taste. Frankly I'd prefer Meta Modern as a beer to crush a bunch of on a hot day. I personally think the Mosaic hop is better for that. I really loved that the first batch of EZ-7 wasn't just another light bodied session IPA (and I'm somewhat disappointed that the new batch more readily conforms to that "standard"). I'm sure your view is the dominant one, though. (Of course, I broke out crowlers of both batches for some friends over the weekend and the universal agreement of our group was, as a beer and setting aside "style" expectations, the first batch was the better beer.) Still, I hope they're not done tinkering with the formula.

I agree that the HM keg of PW tasted a little better (though I was a lot less sober when I drank it which might have impacted my opinion to some degree). It's still a great IIPA even in its current form, especially compared to most other local output.

I dont know which batch i had, but i tried the EZ-7 and ***** Wagon at bangers this Saturday. I thought both were fantastic, with ***** Wagon being the better of the 2, and potentially one of the best IPAs i think Texas has made.

I had EZ-7 at Bangers Saturday, and I get what they were trying to do, but I didn't care for it. It was so unbalanced. Too bitter with not enough flavor or aroma hops. Just completely one-sided. If you're gonna make it that bitter why not just make it an IPA? To say that it is comparable to Zombie Dust is just laughable. I'd give ***** Wagon a shot, but this beer wasn't a good first impression.

By the sounds you had B1 EZ-7. B2 was much better balanced

Maybe. I really hope it gets dialed in, we can never have enough options for good pales here.

Agreed, I believe that B1 got held longer in tanks because of a delay in kegs which may account for the overbitterness on them
