Now that these guys are officially serving their beer around NYC, they deserve a thread. I have yet tried their White IPA, but I do look forward to it. As well as their Black Pale and Mexican Stout. And here's to hoping they manage to open a taproom in Bushwick one day! http://www.bravenbrewing.com/
I've seen the white IPA a couple of times now--didn't realize they were another local Brooklyn brewery. Anyone had a chance to try anything from them yet?
Their stuff is contracted in Saratoga. Haven't tried it yet. I'll be polite here and keep my lips sealed about another Kickstarter brewery opening in NYC, but I have fairly low expectations for this stuff.
That's a fair comment, and understandable. However, the feedback I heard from a few guys who attended the Braven launch party last week was very positive. Too soon to tell, but I was happy to hear the early word was good.
Tried the White IPA the other day and I thought it was decent. Nothing overly exciting, but certainly not bad by any means.
So someone mentioned Braven in the Piel's thread- I've seen the 6pks around. Went to look around their website and it was so hipster (sorry I know that's a hot button word, but couldn't find something else - maybe millenial? social media driven?) Reading about the "founders" do they actually brew it, or have brewing experience - did they homebrew? I just see stuff about building teams and brand creating, etc. An e-comm section. New media stuff. Lots of talk about the historic brewing traditions in Bushwick. I just want to know if they can brew beer - or is it just a marketing entity?
I know the brewers personally and they did start out as homebrewers, and are genuinely interested in resurrecting the Bushwick-area brewing glory days. I enjoy the Pilsner, Black Pale and White IPA, with the Pils being my favorite. They gypsy brew right now but are looking at spaces to open a Bushwick brewery and tasting room. And at least in NYC, their stuff is everywhere. Corner bodegas even.
Yeah I'm a little skeptical when I see new brewery beer everywhere so quickly. Good to know they were homebrewers at least - their website should mention it - a big oversight for branding experts. I wish these little brewing companies would just start out with a small production space instead of initially focusing on branding, apparel and social media before having a brewing space in the neighborhood they have so vocally attached themselves too.
I've had the white IPA - got to try at the launch party some time last late winter/early spring. Nothing to write home about. Pretty average, nothing to really seek out. I've seen the white and the pils around. Haven't felt compelled to order the white again. And not personally a fan of pilseners in general so have passed on that as well.
