So, we've got a hell of a lot of beer in this region...why do you think we've got one of the least active sub-forums on BA?

    I'm proposing a few hypothethethis:

    1. Low (lowest?) population of all the US BA regions
    2. More microbreweries* = fewer whale-watchers = fewer postings about individual beers
    3. More microbreweries* = more drinking = more hangovers = fewer postings about anything
    4. More microbreweries* = more in-person beer chatter = less online beer chatter

#3 can go either way, as you can tell by this thread - certain kinds of hangovers can lead to over-posting.

Anyway, these are all just rambling thoughts not intended to offend anyone or any region. I really think it's a population thing, but there could be some beer-cultural explanations too.

    What do you think?

    Let's. Get. Meta.

To be honest, I know more beer people on Twitter than I do here. I think a lot of the Denver area Twitter beer peeps avoid BA for one reason or another...

more beer = less computer time... who wants to spend an evening drinking great beer and playing on the internet? i use this to fill dead space during the work days.

I'd have to agree with the above two posters and say that it is essentially #2 and #4. I was a much more active trader before moving out here and find it a lot more pleasant to go directly to one of the four or five microbreweries near me for a pint now.

guyforget is right. I feel like BA is 50% travel guide. I'm starting to see "I'm coming in to GABF. Where should I stay?"

I need to take our region back.

There's a little bit of disconnect in our region geographically. That's probably part of it.
We're kind of divided up into "Denver, Montana/Idaho, W. Colorado/E. Utah, Las Vegas, and SLC" sub groups. While there's some, there isn't a ton of interaction between those distinct sub-areas.

Population, geo-distance, and there's good beer/beer places around Denver (the most densely populated zone in MT forum?) that we're just out there drinking. Which is where I'm heading....

Having moved here from the East coast, I have to say there is some truth to this statement, and a welcome change for me in regards to people I've met.

I was shying away from Prospero's statement, but agree with it as well. Not to say we don't all love a good haul or cellar...

The geographical disconnect is interesting as well.

Yea, wasn't necessarily implying that

I don't think this will show correctly but we're somewhere in the middle based on population for post counts

I know this time of year I'm too busy enjoying the outdoors with beer than sitting in front of a computer drinking a beer wishing it were another beer. Maybe if the other regions hadn't rendered their outdoors crowded and overcommercialized and generally ruined, they'd spend more time being outdoors too.

Missoula has a huge craft scene and there are about three of us that spend any time at all on BA.
