Now I'm confused - because this does make sense to me - but I was told a while back (after I had bashed the Spleiegleglau glass for being too thin) that thicker glass walls cause the beer to warm up faster... wish I could find that comment because it made perfect sense at the time, but thinking back on it, it seems crazy.

Yet, the people behind the Sam Adams glass seem to agree with that science.

Indeed - it's nearly identical, but I prefer the Libbey set.

Most beers I'll have out of a regular pint glass. Impy stouts, barleywines, pumpkin ales and IIPA's i'll have out of my snifter glasses. I also have a couple 22oz mugs for sunday football

Even though I have the Sam Adams glasses. Recently for my birthday I acquired a Nonic Pint and a Snifter and they are pretty awesome. The Hop Head is pretty cool and the nonic is the perfect size for any bombers i get. In addition your supporting small business which is pretty cool as well

I normally just use a Sam Adams pint glass, but I've also got glasses that came in variety packs from La Trappe, Weihenstephaner and Duvel and I pull them out for beers similar to the styles they came with.

Someone bought me the entire Pretentious Beer Glass Company line of specialty beer glasses. They suck, apart from the bubble rib stout glass. Big bowl no stem stout/DIPA glasses can go to hell.

I don't like classic wheat glasses. I prefer Hefes out of tulip pints.

I have that same glass - I either drink everything out of that or my New Glarus glass

I have pretty much every glass you could use, but the Boulevard Smoke Stack tulip glass is my favorite, hands down.

I have my oversized Lucifer snifter and an oversized non-brewery ale glass I'm a big fan of, too.

Blue Solo cups only, the red negatively impact the flavor too much.

Meh. I have three go-to glasses at home - a branded shaker pint from a local brewery, a 12 oz tulip from Dollar Tree, and a 14 or 15 oz glass mug given to me by a friend. While I do tend to prefer putting "sippers" in the tulip, I'll generally pour anything into the mug because I like the feel of it, and if it's dirty, I'll just reach for the pint glass. As long as it's not in the bottle, I'm not fussy (and if it's a beer I've had dozens of times, I'll probably be fine with the bottle or can).

My glassware choises are limited to a 13 oz pilsner or a 16 oz mug. I do try to always pour my beer into a glass. I'ts been cooped up in that bottle for who knows how long and it deserves to get out and breathe a bit.

You may want to reconsider your statement about basic science disagreeing with the statement. First let's engage in a bit of a thought experiment. Let us assume that you are going to drink the beer in the place you have stored the glass. The glass itself, assuming it has been stored in a place subject to room temperature, as opposed to being refrigerated, is the main point of contact with the beer placed in the glass. thus the initial transfer is not from ambient air temp but the temp of the glass. If the glass is the thicker glass of the typical shaker pint it will have a greater mass and thus transfer more heat to the beer. I think, at least for me, the rest of this gets a bit murkier as once that initial transfer has taken place - glass to beer - then we have to deal with ambient air ten to glass and ten to beer along with the temp of the hand holding the glass to the glass and then to the beer. I'm sure there is someone who understands this a bit better, or perhaps more than a bit better, than I.

But after reading your post I decided to use my SA Perfect Pint on some beers I had available. I should not that while I've had these glasses quite a while I haven't used them very much as I have grown quite fond of my tulips or most of the beer styles I like. I've been trying the Goose Island IPA in different glassware ( I know this isn't the most highly rated IPA but it was on sale and available), It looks really nice in this SA glass. The nucleation points do seem to help with the appearance of the carbonation. The shape of the glass does seem to enhance the aroma. I've notice that I tend to hold the glass at its narrowest area at the base which may reduce the transfer of heat from the had to the glass. But I'm not sure this really is any issue at all as the temp of the beer isn't my main concern and I'm am not sure if it is warmer of colder. the glass seems to help the appearance of the beer - more bubbles and more lacing, the aroma of the beer, and the ease of the beer (this last point being way more subjective than objective).

Your post led me to revisit this glass and I think I will be using it more often so I thank you for your comments.

    RE: Sam Adams Glass
I too had these glasses for years and never used them until about a month or two ago. Just on a whim I got one out and poured an IPA into it. To this point I had been drinking all beers from a standard pint. I noticed the difference immediately. The aroma was the first thing to hit me and it was something I never smelled in all my years of IPA drinking. I don't usually pay attention to temps so I didn't notice. I'm a fast drinker anyway and truthfully I don't care about the temp after I get halfway through.

It was this experience that lead me to start seeking out better glassware.

A shaker pint glass works fine for me for any and all styles.

I don't dispute that other glass styles and shapes may improve the enjoyment of various beers. I just don't have the storage space nor wish to spend the money on a variety of different glassware when an old standby suits me just fine.
